The Teacher is the subject matter expert and takes the lead in ensuring effective instructional programs for our students at Prophet River Dene Tsaa School. Primary / Core Responsibilities Demonstrate respect for Prophet River First Nation language and culture protocols Express a genuine interest in learning about the Nation’s language and culture to enhance students’ learning in the classroom. Teach students based on the British Columbia Ministry of Education curriculum guidelines Prepare overviews, plan, and deliver lessons for all subject areas Provide classroom supervision and management Provide individualized instruction and intervention in literacy and numeracy Modify and adapt programs to account for a diversity of learning needs Implement testing and report data as required Assess and record students’ progress by developing report cards and individual education plans Identify goals for students in individual education plans Establish and build relationships with the students’ families and the Prophet River First Nation at large Communicate regularly with families about students’ progress Maintain a tidy and orderly classroom Use classroom management strategies to promote a healthy, safe, and orderly classroom environment Plan and execute educational in-class and outdoor activities and events Supervise students during school hours and at in school events hosted in the community Observe and understand students’ behavior and report suspicions of neglect, abuse etc. Develop and enrich professional skills and knowledge by attending seminars, conferences, and workshops Participate in regular staff meetings to support the smooth running and administration of the school Support the leadership team to implement Prophet River First Nation’s vision and goals for their students. Be willing to participate in regular coaching and training to better own skills as an effective educator Learns and performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with Prophet River First Nation policies, standards, practices, and procedures, as directed by the Director of Education.
