Job Description

Our client in the energy industry is looking to hire a Senior Manager, Government Relations to join their growing team in Toronto.

This is a one year contract with the chance of permanency in a different capacity with the same team!

Reporting to the Director of Stakeholder Relations, the Senior Manager is responsible for managing and implementing the organization's relationship strategy with customers, market participants, and sector stakeholders, balancing multiple interests during a time of sector transformation.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Advance the organization's corporate strategy to strengthen and build new relationships with sector stakeholders, customers, and communities.
  • Engage and respond to input from customers and stakeholders.
  • Develop and lead effective engagement strategies to : Support and enhance relationships with customers, stakeholders, associations, and market participants.

Deliver on the stakeholder engagement strategy to create meaningful programs, identify new stakeholders and priorities. Identify corporate risks to orgainzation reputation and initiatives through engagement and partnerships.

Participate in projects and programs. Drive and guide sector transformation through leadership of the Stakeholder Advisor Committee.

Facilitate advising the Board of Directors on Market Rules amendments via leadership of the technical panel. Provide reports to the Board of Directors and Executive Leadership Team.

Collaborate with the Director and management team to develop and implement corporate strategies for : Delivering on the Division’s accountabilities.

Maintaining and enhancing organization reputation among customers, stakeholders, employees, government, and media. Attaining organization strategic objectives.

  • Provide leadership in developing and implementing engagement strategies, systems, policies, and plans to maintain and enhance organization reputation and relationships with sector stakeholders and customers.
  • Lead work programs, administration, and management of external-facing teams to align with Divisional and corporate goals.

Key activities include : Leading corporate stakeholder engagement processes, including managing the Stakeholder Advisory Committee and the Technical Panel.

Leading stakeholder engagements for external-facing change initiatives. Leading the broader Stakeholder Engagement strategy to improve organization visibility and credibility across the sector.

Leading the customer and customer association relationship strategy, including customer care. Developing and delivering training to Market Participants.

  • Manage relationships with key sector stakeholder associations, including making presentations to associations and committees.
  • Act as the Director’s delegate on internal committees and stand in on committees when the Vice President is unavailable, including assuming signing authority and representing the Director on occasion.
  • Overseeing a team of 15+ employees

Qualifications :

  • 10+ years of experience in stakeholder relations, government relations, or public affairs
  • 3-5 years of people management experience
  • Communications background an asset
  • Experience working in energy / utilities / environmental industries a strong asset
  • Exceptional written, communication, and presentation skills
  • High degree of political acuity
