Our client, a highly regarded Labour & Employment law firm in Toronto, is seeking a Litigation Legal Assistant to join their team.
Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive support to lawyers specializing in employment litigation and labour law matters.
- Prepare, proofread, and manage legal documents, including pleadings, motions, discovery requests, and correspondence.
- Assist in the preparation and filing of documents with various courts and tribunals (e.g., Ontario Labour Relations Board, Human Rights Tribunal).
- Coordinate discovery and trial preparation, including organizing exhibits, evidence, and witness lists.
- Maintain and organize client files, both paper and electronic, ensuring all materials are updated and accessible.
- Draft client communications, status reports, and meeting notes.
- Conduct legal research on labour and employment law matters, including case law and statutes.
- Manage calendars for deadlines, hearings, meetings, and court appearances.
- Liaise with clients, opposing counsel, experts, and other stakeholders.
- Assist in managing billing and timekeeping for assigned cases.
Requirements
- 2+ years of experience working as a legal assistant or paralegal with a focus on Labour & Employment law, preferably with experience in Litigation.
- Proficiency in preparing and managing legal documents, including drafting correspondence, pleadings, and discovery documents.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- High attention to detail, strong proofreading skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and legal case management software.
Compensation and schedule
This role offers a salary up to $60,000, commensurate with experience, and comprehensive benefits package. This role is working on a hybrid remote schedule.
