The Opportunity :

The Manager will support BGO’s Sustainable Investing team across its global portfolio. This role will be responsible for analyzing and reporting on the BGO's sustainability, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and environmental performance data. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding and experience with sustainability data and GHG accounting, the GHG Protocol, and the Partnership for Carbon Accounting Financials (PCAF) methodology. The Manager will play an essential role in helping BGO monitor, measure and drive sustainability performance. This role will report to the Vice President, Sustainable Investing based in Toronto, ON.

What You Will Do :

  • Gather, analyze, and ensure accuracy of BGO’s GHG inventory across Scope 1, 2 and 3
  • Prepare and support submission of environmental data, including emissions, to various third-party reporting frameworks (i.e., NZAM, PRI, GHG Protocol, SBTi, TCFD)
  • Prepare environmental data for investor due diligence questionnaires and regular investor reporting
  • Support the maintenance of BGO’s sustainability data management software and reporting systems
  • Track and monitor progress towards net zero targets at the firm and fund-level
  • Develop and maintain policies, processes and controls around environmental data, including GHG emissions
  • Lead annual third-party assurance of environmental performance data
  • Support compliance with relevant environmental compliance and reporting requirements
  • Engage and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including BGO’s parent company, on emissions reporting, disclosures and regulatory compliance
  • Stay updated on relevant energy and emissions regulations, as well as new technologies and methodologies for GHG management and innovation
  • Develop content and educate internal stakeholders on GHG emissions

Who You Are :

  • Post secondary education in sustainability, environmental science, accounting, finance, or related field
  • 3-5 years of experience in carbon accounting, environmental management, or related fields
  • Experience in commercial real restate / investment management is considered an asset
  • Experience with applying and calculating emissions utilizing the GHG Protocol, PCAF (Principles for Carbon Accounting Financials)
  • Understanding and experience reporting to sustainability frameworks and standards (e.g., ISSB, PRI, TCFD)
  • Understanding of SBTi Buildings SDA, CRREM (climate risk real estate monitor), and previous experience setting science-based targets is considered as an asset
  • Experience with sustainability platforms, such as Brightly, Deepki, Measurabl, Cambio, or others is considered an asset
  • Understanding and preferably experience with estimation approaches and proxies for Scope 1, 2, and each Scope 3 category and life cycle assessment quantifications.
  • Advanced data management, analysis, QA / QC skills (advanced Excel skills are a must; basic knowledge of dashboards such as Power BI, or a desire to learn, is considered an advantage)
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex concepts to a variety of stakeholders
  • Self-starter with the ability to deliver high-quality work products with strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, problem solving, and project management skills are essential
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint) required
