PLA 1751 H1S : Finance for Planners

Course Description : The purpose of this course is to introduce planning students to current issues in municipal finance in Canada and around the world, provide basic economic tools to analyze municipal public finance problems, and emphasize the important role that municipal finance plays in planning decisions.

Class Schedule : Mondays, 9 : 00am to 11 : 00am

Sessional dates of appointment : January 1, 2025 – April 30, 2025

Salary : Sessional Lecturer I - $9,457.89. Sessional Lecturer I Long-term - $9,930.79. Sessional Lecturer II - $10,121.76. Sessional Lecturer II Long-term - $10,326.61; Sessional Lecturer III - $10,362.76; Sessional Lecturer III Long-term - $10,570.01

Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.

Minimum Qualifications : A graduate degree in Economics or a related field with substantial professional experience in the area of municipal finance is required.

Preferred Qualifications : Previous experience teaching this or a similar course for planning students at the graduate University level is preferred.

Brief description of duties : Preparing materials for lectures and class discussions; preparing course syllabi and selecting relevant readings; developing, administering, and marking course assignments, tests and exams; test / exam invigilation; holding regular office hours; planning and supervising the work of teaching assistants.
