Employment Type : Part-Time, Permanent, 10 hours per week

Compensation : $28.06 – $29.66

Location : Varies from Sechelt to Pender Harbor (On-site)

About The Role

The Indigenous Wellness Liaison works from a culturally informed, strength-based approach with identified Indigenous families, youth, and children living along the Coast from Port Melon to Pender Harbour. This position supports the provision of mainstream Child and Youth Mental Health (CYMH) services in an accessible and culturally competent manner, including making referrals to other community resources as appropriate. This role reports to the Manager – Family, Youth & Children Services.

What You’ll Do

  • Support the provision of mainstream Child Youth and Mental Health services in a culturally competent manner for families with children aged 6–18 presenting with serious emotional, psychological, and / or behavioral challenges.
  • Liaise with School District 46 Indigenous programs to foster relationships and strategies that support culturally appropriate mental health care.
  • Promote mutual support and capacity development for children, youth, and families / caregivers.
  • Develop and implement strategies to increase community awareness of Indigenous CYMH needs.
  • Collaborate with MCFD CYMH teams and local services to integrate Indigenous perspectives, traditions, and values.
  • Support families and youth through case conferencing, referrals, and direct connection to services.
  • Maintain accurate records, files, and statistics in line with program and CARF requirements.
  • Participate in staff meetings and represent SCCSS in a professional and positive manner.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What You Bring

  • Post-secondary education in a related field, plus at least one year of relevant work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of culturally competent practices and a deep understanding of the impacts of colonization on Indigenous communities, families, and individuals.
  • Knowledge and experience supporting populations with physical, mental, emotional, and / or developmental challenges.
  • Strong understanding of mental health indicators, concurrent disorders, and trauma-informed practices.
  • Demonstrated experience with strengths-based approaches and a solid understanding of the harm reduction model.
  • Excellent risk assessment skills and the ability to make informed, culturally safe decisions.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively and foster trusting relationships with families, children, youth, and professional support services.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office.

  • A valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle are required.
  • Criminal Record Check required.
  • Emergency Child Care First Aid certification.
  • Flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Work across multiple Coast locations; some home office work possible.
  • Regular computer use and extended sitting; occasional lifting / moving of supplies.
