Methods Analyst II – Strategic Business Intelligence Analyst

Reporting to the Team Lead of the Business Intelligence Development Unit (BIDU), under the Business Analytics, Intelligence and Reporting (BAIR) Section, the Edmonton Police Service (EPS) requires a highly organized, dedicated individual to conduct strategic and operational analyses and transform data sets into compelling visuals and actionable intelligence for diverse audiences.

Responsibilities

Develop corporate business intelligence reporting solutions.
Use statistical, analytical and modeling tools to identify operational impacts and crime trends.
Leverage new and existing data, creating new tools and analytical products to provide stakeholders with evidence-based decisions and monitor and launch new initiatives.
Design, develop and refine business intelligence dashboards and data visualizations to deliver actionable insights.
Conduct business analysis to increase efficiency and build business process improvement models.
Research analytics trends related to intelligence-led policing, public safety and workload management.
Consult with internal and external stakeholders to document analytical business requirements and ensure products meet business needs.
Collect data, develop analyses, ad hoc queries and business intelligence products and tools that meet business requirements.
Test and validate business intelligence products and tools following EPS quality assurance processes.
Communicate and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
Other related duties as required.

Qualifications

University graduation (preferably at the Master’s level) in Business Administration, Industrial Engineering or a discipline as required by area of specialization, and a minimum of four (4) years’ directly related working experience.

Skills required for success

Proficient in data collection, database mining and statistical analysis.

Advanced skill level in Microsoft Excel, and coding in SQL, R or Python.

Experience managing and creating large-scale, distributed data processing and analytics, including big data tasks such as ETL, machine learning, SQL query optimization, and real-time streaming across clusters, using engines such as Apache Spark.

Experience with business intelligence and data visualization tools such as Microsoft Power BI, Tableau, Qlik or Google Looker.

Proficient in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.

Exceptional analytical, problem solving, oral and written communication skills.

Ability to collect, analyze and interpret data and statistics using quantitative and qualitative methods.

Ability to prepare and present complex statistical reports.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Ability to exercise judgment and discretion in completing assigned tasks.

Ability to communicate clearly at the executive level.

Assets

Experience with analytics-oriented cloud computing platforms such as Azure, MS Fabric or Snowflake.

Experience in project management methods and software.

Proficient in data visualization techniques, including layout, colour and interaction design.

Familiarity with police data and data models.

Experience in using Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and tools.

Experience working in policing or public safety environment and experience with Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems and Records Management Systems (RMS) and data.

Hours of Work : 33.75 hours per week, Monday – Friday, subject to compressed hours of work program.

Salary Range : 21M, Salary Grade : 030, $51,611 – $65,218 (Hourly), $3,483.70 – $4,402.20 (Bi‑Weekly), $90,925.68 – $114,897.81 (Annually). The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
