Overview
Packaging Specialist – Procurement role at Agropur. The role will work closely with the Director of R&D Packaging and Technology to develop and oversee packaging specifications, lead reengineering initiatives, act as a liaison between corporate offices and manufacturing sites, and manage procurement projects and supplier / SKU implementations. This strategic position contributes to the optimization of packaging processes while supporting innovation and operational efficiency goals.
What This Role Involves
- Develop and formalize technical specifications for packaging solutions
- Act as an internal expert on assigned packaging types
- Collaborate on innovation in packaging materials and concepts
- Analyze market trends and competitor practices to improve cost and efficiency
- Propose packaging reformulations and conduct related case studies
- Apply continuous improvement tools (e.g., problem-solving, root cause analysis)
- Lead or support Design to Value (DTV) workshops to optimize packaging design
- Collaborate with plants and procurement teams to ensure technical requirements are accurately reflected in sourcing processes
- Influence internal stakeholders to adopt innovative practices
- Provide technical support on packaging-related projects (quality issues, specification changes, plant trials)
- Manage procurement and reformulation projects while minimizing operational disruptions
- Participate in onboarding new suppliers and SKUs, including plant trials
- Define target costs to support procurement negotiations
- Contribute to supplier technical audits in collaboration with the Quality team
- Foster strategic partnerships with suppliers to drive innovation and performance
What You Need To Join Our Team
Bachelor’s degree in engineering required (ideally in Packaging, Mechanical, Chemical, or related field); Master’s degree is an assetStrong knowledge of packaging materials, polymer science, and material interactionsSolid understanding of product development processes3 to 5 years of relevant experience in engineering or manufacturingExperience in packaging or the dairy / food industry strongly preferredKnowledge of supply chain or procurement is an assetProven ability to lead organizational changeExcellent communication and influencing skillsStrategic and collaborative leadership abilitiesAbility to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously while meeting deadlinesStrong organizational and prioritization skillsIntermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, OutlookFamiliarity with industry-specific software toolsBilingual (French and English), required due to interactions with internal clients and colleagues across Canada and the U.S.Results-oriented with a focus on financial performanceCommitted to meeting internal and external client needsStrong decision-making skills based on analysis, experience, and sound judgmentWe’re ready.
