As a Building Maintenance Engineer with Vancouver Coastal Health you will:

• Perform general building maintenance and repair duties approaching the journeyman level in a variety of trades areas such as electrical mechanical plumbing carpentry painting and welding related to buildings and equipment.
• Perform mechanical and electrical repairs to plant systems such as heating air handling and pneumatic tube systems.
• Operate repair and carry out preventative maintenance on the boilers air conditioning units emergency power and other related equipment of the facility in compliance with applicable codes and regulations.
• Be prepared to act in various capacities regarding supporting maintenance in general terms.
• Work within the hospital campus and in a support role to trades personnel.

Education & Experience

• Education & Experience Certificate of competency as a 4th Class Power Engineer recognized by the Province of BC.
• Two (2) years recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education training and experience.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities

• Ability to operate related equipment.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to deal with others effectively.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints drawings and specifications.
• Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
• Ability to organize work.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.

As per Ministry of Health policy all health care workers working in publicly-funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks. For all new hires and appointments to Vancouver Coastal Health you will be asked to provide this information as part of the onboarding process.
