Location : Ingersoll, Ontario, Canada (Onsite)

Daily Schedule / Shift :  Rotating shifts – Days (7am-3pm) and Afternoons (3pm-11pm) and potentially Nights (11pm-7am) including weekends.

Role Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Material Handling Manager specializing in automotive supply chain management. In this role, you will oversee material operations as well as supervising a medium size group of hourly employees who provide the necessary material handling service functions. Includes the receipt and distribution of parts and / or assemblies to maintain production and non-production schedules and / or commitments. Work involves coordinating several administrative and / or technical operations with decisions made within the limits of general practices, standards, and policies. Exercise a high level of independent judgment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage Unionized material operators.
  • Interprets written and oral communications to determine and establish job assignments, priorities, and methods.
  • Frequent contact with others outside the work group.
  • Coordinates with other departments and supervisors to insure a smooth flow of material.
  • Coordinates performance of needed service and / or parts to equipment.
  • Maintains inventory of material and reports shortages, discrepancies, and rejections.
  • Maintains safety and good housekeeping standards.
  • Complies with the terms of local and national labor agreements.
  • Establishes a course of action to accomplish completion of the job and / or project.
  • Keeps abreast of current product developments and trends in areas of expertise.
  • Actively identifies new areas for learning and takes advantage of learning opportunities.
  • Trains, develops and evaluates employees.
  • Monitors, controls and publishes inventory reports and shipping reports.

Requirements

Required Skills and Experiences :

  • Over 3 years supervisor experience in manufacturing managing hourly employees.
  • Proficient experience in automotive manufacturing or material supply chain management.
  • Considerably high level of analytical ability for complex problems.
  • High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others, motivate employees, and elicit work output.
  • Demonstrated technical and professional skills in job-related area required.
  • Knowledge of computer software.
  • Completion of recommended corporate training program.
  • Preferred Skills and Experiences :

  • Automotive experience in a Union environment.
  • Experience in General Motors manufacturing facilities.
  • Knowledge of basic math.
  • Knowledgeable of SAP.
  • Ability to apply GMS (Global Manufacturing System) and LMS (Lean Manufacturing System) principles.
  • Education and Training :

  • High school diploma or GED required. Associate or Bachelor degree in Engineering or related technical field preferred.
