Description de postePosition DescriptionJob Opportunity: Settlement Worker (Full-Time, 40 hours/week)Organization Overview Adam House is a faith-based refugee shelter and settlement support organization located in Toronto. We provide newly arrived refugee claimants with a safe and welcoming short-term home, while offering comprehensive support throughout their settlement journey. Our services include advocacy for access to social, medical, legal, and educational resources; guidance through the refugee claim process; community integration support; and educational outreach to churches and local communities. We also assist clients in developing personalized Individual Development Plans (IDPs) and identifying opportunities for growth and self-sufficiency. Adam House operates a main shelter near Dufferin & Bloor, along with six transitional housing units across North York, East York, and Midtown Toronto. We currently support up to 58 individuals at a time (18 in emergency housing and 40 in transitional housing), in addition to former residents and drop-in clients. Position Summary The Settlement Worker plays a vital role in supporting refugee claimants through their transition to life in Canada. This position involves working across all seven Adam House sites on a rotating basis and may include occasional evening hours. The successful candidate will be responsible for intake, case management, referrals, and client support, while contributing to a collaborative and compassionate team environment. Key Responsibilities Conduct client intake and provide orientation for new arrivals Manage individual cases and assist clients in developing their IDPs Supervise and support placement students and volunteers Facilitate referrals to government agencies, healthcare providers, legal counsel, and educational institutions Maintain detailed daily case notes and documentation to ensure continuity of service and accountability Ensure accurate, confidential record keeping Assist clients with work/study permit applications and renewals Support applications for permanent residence, including referrals to appropriate service providers Provide employment readiness support, including resumé building and job search assistance Offer tools and resources to promote successful integration into Canadian society Assist with housing searches when needed Manage exit and transfer processes for clients moving to transitional housing Refer clients to organizations that assist with refugee hearing preparation Support clients in completing forms, gathering documentation, and writing support letters Participate in weekly staff meetings and contribute to team planning Enforce the Adam House Code of Conduct and assist in resolving behavioral issues Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor Qualifications Post-secondary education in Social Services, Community Services, Immigration & Refugee Studies, or a related field Minimum of two years’ experience in one or more of the above fields Supervisory experience preferred Experience working with faith-based or community organizations is an asset Familiarity with Canadian refugee and immigration processes, Ontario Works benefits, Legal Aid, employment services, training programs, and healthcare access Strong ability to learn quickly and demonstrate a high level of work ethic Excellent interpersonal, cross-cultural communication, and organizational skills Skilled in managing crises effectively Ability to work both independently and collaboratively across multiple sites Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace Skilled in online research, including navigating government websites, service directories, and digital platforms to support client needs Fluent in English; additional languages such as Spanish, Arabic, French, Amharic, Tigrinya, or Farsi are considered an asset Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle preferred Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and trauma-informed care
