Job Summary and Requirements

Deputy Workers’ Advocate and Investigations and Standards Officer

This is a 1-year term, full-time position working 75 hours biweekly. Anticipatory Permanent. Temporary assignments will also be considered.

WAO Role : Reporting to the Manager, WAO, this position acts as an advocate for injured workers ensuring that workers are aware of their rights and obligations under the Workers’ Safety Compensation Act. The position provides advice through sharing information about the meaning and effect of workers compensation claims decisions, at times representing workers, through reconsiderations, appeals and early case resolution.

ISO Role : Reporting to the Manager, ISO, this position contributes to the independent oversight of the Whitehorse Correctional Centre through the Corrections Act and Corrections Regulations by conducting reviews, investigations, early case resolution, reviews of inmate disciplinary hearings and inspections.

Essential Qualifications :

• Completion of a post-secondary degree in related field (social sciences, criminology, social work, law, human resources, or disability management) or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a public service setting.
• Experience in advising clients regarding their rights and obligations under legislation, regulations, policies and procedures.
• Experience in effectively managing a high volume, demanding, active caseload.
• Experience in effectively managing clients in crisis (i.e., angry, distraught).
• Experience in investigating / case managing public administration issues.
• Experience in adjudication, as a member of an administrative board or tribunal.
• Experience as a client representative appearing before decision making bodies.
