Position Overview

The Welder performs fabrication, maintenance, and repair work on new and used solid waste handling equipment. This role ensures all repairs meet high standards of quality, efficiency, and safety while keeping shop facilities, tools, and inventory well-maintained.

Key Responsibilities

• Fabrication & Repair: Operate specialized welding equipment to fabricate, modify, and repair solid waste handling machinery. Prep and paint equipment as needed.

• Maintenance & Tooling: Inspect, maintain, and safely operate shop equipment and personal hand tools. Report needed machine repairs to the Shop Manager.

• Shop & Inventory Operations: Keep work areas, job sites, and assigned vehicles clean and organized. Track supply inventory and assist team members with general shop duties.

• Documentation & Compliance: Record all service activities accurately. Comply with federal, state/provincial, and local regulations, safety standards, and company policies. Attend mandatory safety and branch meetings.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Education: High School Diploma or GED preferred

• Technical Background: 1-2 years of practical, hands-on welding and fabrication experience.

• Personal Equipment: Must supply your own basic protective gear and hand tools (e.g., welding helmet/shield, standard hand wrenches).

• Safety Compliance: Must pass and maintain all criteria required for a company-designated safety-sensitive position.

• Schedule Flexibility: Must be available to work flexible shifts, including daytime and evening hours.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Sound knowledge of welding techniques, metals, and fabrication methods.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and follow technical instructions.

• High level of continuous mental focus and visual attention to detail.

Physical Demands & Working Conditions

• Physical Capability: Regularly required to stand, walk, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, and navigate tight or confined spaces. Frequently lift/move up to 25 lbs; occasionally lift/move up to 100 lbs.

• Environment: Exposed to varying weather conditions, noise, vibration, moving mechanical parts, airborne particles, and chemicals. Occasional work at elevated heights.
