Where You Will Be Working

Nasittuq supports operations across the North Warning System (NWS), a network of remote sites located throughout Canada's Arctic. Working in the North offers a unique opportunity to contribute to critical infrastructure while experiencing some of the country's most remote and remarkable landscapes.

What You'll Do:

• Patrol worksites and surrounding areas to identify, monitor, and assess wildlife activity and potential safety risks.

• Conduct wildlife risk assessments and provide guidance to employees, contractors, and project teams working in outdoor Arctic environments.

• Use approved non-lethal wildlife deterrents, including bear bangers, air horns, whistles, and rubber bullets, to prevent dangerous wildlife interactions.

• Monitor compliance with site safety procedures, wildlife management protocols, food storage requirements, and waste management practices.

• Promote safe work practices and provide direction to personnel on wildlife awareness and hazard prevention.

• Respond to wildlife encounters and emergency situations while maintaining the safety of personnel and operations.

• Coordinate with wildlife authorities and regulatory agencies when required following wildlife incidents.

• Handle firearms safely and responsibly in accordance with regulatory requirements and company procedures.

• Support seasonal projects, sealift activities, and operational initiatives across multiple North Warning System locations.

• Maintain incident reports, risk assessments, wildlife observations, and other required documentation.

• Travel with crews working at remote radar sites, project locations, and northern operations as operational requirements dictate.

• Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned in support of the North Warning System mission.

Who You Are:

CREDENTIALS:

• Grade 12 High School Diploma or equivalent combination of education, training, and directly related experience.

• Valid Possession and Acquisition Licence (PAL).

• Basic Wildlife Monitor or Wildlife Safety Technician Certification.

• Wilderness First Aid, CPR, and AED Certification, or the ability to obtain certification.

• Ability to obtain and maintain a Reliability Security Clearance.

EXPERIENCE:

• Minimum two years of experience working in a remote northern environment in a role such as hunter, guide, trapper, camp safety officer, wildlife monitor, outfitter, or similar position.

• Demonstrated experience supporting projects in remote wilderness settings with wildlife hazards.

• Experience working across multiple field seasons, projects, and environmental conditions.

SKILLS:

• Strong knowledge of Arctic wildlife, including polar bears, wolves, wolverines, and other northern species.

• Knowledge of wildlife behaviour, wildlife hazard assessments, deterrent techniques, and emergency response procedures.

• Ability to safely and effectively operate wildlife deterrents and related safety equipment.

• Strong situational awareness and the ability to react quickly, calmly, and effectively in high-pressure situations.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with diverse teams.

• Proven problem-solving, decision-making, and risk assessment abilities.

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a small team environment.

• Ability to maintain professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality.

• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including fall arrest equipment when required.

• Ability to walk, stand, and work outdoors for extended periods in remote Arctic environments and challenging weather conditions.

• Comfortable travelling by fixed-wing aircraft, helicopter, snowmobile, and other transportation methods common to northern operations.

• Please note that employment at North Warning System is conditional upon obtaining and maintaining an Enhanced Reliability Security Clearance or Secret Level Security Clearance.
