About Towhee Camp Towhee / Towhee Summer Therapeutic Program supports youth with mental health challenges complicated by learning disabilities.
Located in Haliburton, Ontario, Towhee creates lasting, positive change for campers and staff.

We provide 10 days of comprehensive training covering behaviour management, counselling skills, Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI), mental health, and learning disabilities.

Who we need We are hiring a Camp Counsellor to join our dynamic Camp Towhee team.
Reporting to the Camp Director, this contract position runs from ASAP to August 21, 2025.
As a Camp Counsellor, you will be part of a three-person team responsible for providing direct care and support to a cabin of 6-8 campers.
You will be a role model, mentor, and support system, helping campers navigate their camp experience while fostering confidence, friendships, and personal growth.
We are looking for a team player with a passion for supporting children and youth, a willingness to learn about the impacts of mental health and learning disabilities, and the ability to create a safe and positive environment where campers can thrive.
As our new Camp Counsellor, you will : Work collaboratively with your co-counsellors to ensure that campers have a safe, engaging, and structured environment throughout the day.
Accompany your cabin from wake-up to bedtime, providing emotional, social, and behavioural support.
Assist campers in reaching their identified therapeutic goals through positive interactions and encouragement.
Intervene in moments of conflict or challenging behaviour, helping campers navigate emotions, de-escalate situations, and repair relationships.
Foster social connections and participation, ensuring all campers feel included and valued.
Participate in the planning and execution of special camp-wide programs and themed events.
Uphold and communicate Camp Towhee’s policies, practices, and procedures, serving as a positive role model at all times.
You bring Two or more years of post-secondary education or equivalent experience.
Standard First Aid with CPR-C certification.
Experience working with children and youth, preferably with populations facing mental health and learning challenges.
Previous camp experience (strongly preferred).
Personal, professional, or educational experience in a related field (education, recreation, social work, psychology, etc.).
Strong judgment and decision-making skills, with the ability to adapt to dynamic situations.
A current and valid police records check with vulnerable sector screening.
Ability to work respectfully with diverse backgrounds and experiences.
Working Conditions Fast-paced camp environment with frequent interaction with campers, staff, supervisors, families, and visitors.
May require lifting children (up to 45 lbs.), as well as bending, stooping, stretching, squatting, pushing, pulling, sitting, walking, and climbing stairs.
Participation in a 3-5 day canoe trip (or a 10-day trip), involving paddling, portaging, hiking, swimming, carrying equipment, and tent camping.
Moderate to loud noise levels.
Frequent physical activity, including standing, walking, running, lifting, and actively engaging with campers and staff in various camp activities and games.
Other requirements All applicants are advised that offers of employment are contingent upon the successful completion of a Vulnerable Sector Check OR Board Record Check.
Contract Period Start date : ASAP End date : August 21, 2025 Compensation : $3,516 (including base salary and a completion bonus).
The base salary and completion bonus will be prorated based on the actual start date.
