Intelcom | Dragonfly
With more than 100 sorting stations and operations across three continents, Intelcom | Dragonfly is Canada’s leader in last-mile logistics. Our vision is clear: to deliver fast, accurate, and reliable service powered by cutting-edge technology.
A Strategic Role at the Heart of Logistic
The Senior Financial Analyst – Linehaul & Digitalization will own the economics of contracted trucking that moves packages across Intelcom | Dragonfly’s network. The role drives cost efficiency by turning carrier and network data into measurable improvements in cost per km and cost per tonne-km.
The senior analyst will build and maintain advanced, driver-based models and allocation logic (tonne-km and gross tonne-km) to reallocate linehaul costs accurately across lanes, flows, and business units. The role focuses on only five controllable performance drivers: fuel, deadhead, dwell time, fill rate (utilization), and load factor.
This position is designed for a candidate with proven experience in establishing, digitalizing and enforcing processes, coupled with advanced data modeling and a track record of converting analysis into sustained cost reduction actions.
Key Responsibilities
1. Linehaul Cost Economics & Allocation
Own linehaul spend transparency using km, lb-km, and gross tonne-km; eliminate blended averages and expose true unit economics.
Build and maintain allocation models to reallocate contracted linehaul costs across lanes, flows, and business units using tonne-km as the primary allocator.
Create governance for data definitions and reconciliation so Finance, Operations, and Network Planning work from one economic view.
2. Driver-Based Performance Management
Fuel: validate fuel index pass-throughs and quantify fuel-driven cost per km; separate market movement from operational inefficiency.
Deadhead: measure empty km % and the dilution impact on tonne-km economics; identify routes, schedules, and pairing opportunities to reduce empty repositioning.
Dwell time: quantify detention and dwell at nodes and translate into cost per km and service impacts; surface chronic bottlenecks and owners.
Fill rate (utilization): measure capacity utilization vs theoretical and paid capacity; identify under-filled linehaul moves and opportunities for consolidation.
Load factor: quantify weight efficiency and realized tonne-km vs paid km; detect systematic under-loading and network imbalance.
3. Advanced Modeling & Scenario Analysis
Develop multi-variable, driver-based forecasting models linking volume, weight, distance, utilization, and carrier mix to total linehaul cost.
Run scenario and sensitivity analyses on network changes (lane redesign, consolidation, schedule shifts) to quantify savings and trade-offs.
Stress-test carrier cost and performance narratives with objective data; translate findings into decisions and actions.
4. Cross-Functional Decision Support
Partner with Operations and Network Planning to convert performance insights into executable actions that reduce cost per km and cost per tonne-km.
Support Procurement and carrier management with economic models for negotiations, lane awards, and performance conversations grounded in the five drivers.
Produce executive-ready dashboards and decision briefs that highlight cost-out opportunities, risks, and required trade-offs.
Leveraging information systems : build, transform and digitalize best practice cross-functional processes and decision tree relative to Network Operations, with a clear focus on accountability, delegation of authority (DoA) and financial oversight.
Steward the digitalization efforts related to Network and act as an accelerator for all new products/technologies related to the network, worldwide, acting with a sense of urgency and ensuring full integration into the ERP stack.
Enforce the DoA relative to lane modification/opening.
Qualifications & Experience
Required:
Proven experience (8+ years) in FP&A, operations finance, or analytical roles with direct responsibility for cost drivers and performance outcomes.
Advanced data modeling expertise (driver-based models, allocations, multi-variable scenarios) with demonstrated impact on cost efficiency.
Strong capability with large datasets and BI tooling (Power BI or equivalent) and advanced Excel modeling.
Ability to design, defend, and operationalize tonne-km and gross tonne-km allocation logic for cost reallocation.
Strong stakeholder management skills; can challenge assumptions and drive decisions with clear economic logic.
Technological saviness : A passion for digitalizing processes, automate data flows within systems and leverage the ERP stack to build true end-to-end solutions.
French and English fluency - The role involves daily (or regular) communication with pan-Canadian stakeholders.
Preferred:
Candidate with strong knowledge of network operations, linehaul processes, and carrier management practices.
Experience in logistics, transportation, or parcel networks with contracted carrier environments.
Professional designation (CPA) or equivalent financial rigor.
Experience building standardized KPI and governance frameworks.
Experience in digitalizing processes and leveraging ERP functionalities and connectivity.
Why Join Us?
High-impact role controlling a major cost line with direct influence on margin and scalability.
Opportunity to institutionalize lb-km based cost accountability and performance discipline across the network.
Exposure to senior Operations and Finance leadership; work that translates directly into cost-out actions.
