The Lac La Ronge Indian Band’s Education Department is now accepting applications for - academic year to fill the following full-time term position based out of the Youth Haven. The job will involve regular travel to our 4 communities / schools
LAND BASED CULTURAL INSTRUCTOR
The suitable candidate will be able to perform the following duties :
Work as part of a team with a passion for improving Woodland Cree Culture at all of our schools;
Work in collaboration with the CRU to develop and deliver Land-Based programming;
Liaise with the classroom teachers, community members and elders to plan for land-based learning;
Develop programming and activities for our children with guidance and inclusion of the CLCC, teachers, community members, Elders, program workers and traditional people;
Create and deliver cultural and land based educational opportunities within Woodland communities;
Ensure activities honor the Woodland Cree skills, values, and teachings and incorporate the teachings throughout the daily routine within our schools;
Establish community connections with local programs that promote the Woodland Cree language, way of life, and Land Based Education;
Increase and support a connection to the land for students and staff including the knowledge of plants, hunting, harvesting, fishing and northern lifestyles;
Empower staff and students to develop and advance their worldview (Woodland Cree Perspective);
Conduct and organize day, overnight and / or weeklong cultural activities at the Youth Haven or Schools;
Knowledgeable about ecology, the environment, traditional land use and conservation.
The suitable candidates will possess the following qualifications :
Bachelor of Education degree
Saskatchewan Professional “A” teaching certificate;
Fluent in Woodland Cree in the TH dialect is considered an asset;
Strong background in the culture and traditions of Woodland Cree
Experience with outdoor education and cultural activities following the 6 seasons
Strong classroom management skills;
Ability to teach students of varying abilities;
Cross – Cultural experience is an asset.
Must have a Valid Class 5 Driver’s License;
Must provide a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract, Criminal Record Check / Vulnerable Sector Screening;
Must be able to provide verification of previous teaching experience (if applicable);
