Job Summary:
The Assistant Hamlet Operator (seasonal) is accountable to the Projects & Infrastructure Supervisor for efficient and effective operations of Water and Wastewater Infrastructure in the Municipal District of Taber (MDT), as well as year-round maintenance of parks, public spaces, and other municipal property within the hamlets.

Daily Work Activities Include:
Water and Wastewater Infrastructure:
  • Conduct routine testing to ensure quality of water, wastewater, and storm drainage.
  • Conduct routine visual inspections of water, wastewater, and storm drainage facilities and infrastructure to identify potential issues and ensure safe and efficient operation of MDT facilities.
  • Assist qualified professionals with repairs and maintenance activities.
  • Report any operational concerns or potential problems promptly.
  • Ensure the security of infrastructure sites.
  • Ensure that critical deadlines are met on a consistent basis including reporting requirements outlined within the municipal, provincial, federal acts, statutes, regulations, bylaws, and policies.
  • Ensure compliance with all Federal, Provincial, and Municipal policies applicable to the function of the utility infrastructure and systems within the Hamlet.
Parks and Grounds Maintenance:
  • Perform regular mowing, trimming, and general upkeep of grassed areas in parks and along public roadways.
  • Maintain the health and appearance of shrubs and trees in public spaces, including planting, watering, and basic pruning.
  • Ensure the upkeep of sports fields and park amenities like playground equipment, fences, and benches.
  • Manage waste disposal in parks and public areas, ensuring cleanliness.
  • Assist with the setup and takedown for community events held in public spaces.
Other:
  • Be willing and able to respond to emergencies within MDT as well as hamlets.
  • Performs other municipal duties as may be assigned from time to time.


Requirements

Education and Knowledge Required:
  • Post-secondary degree, diploma, or a certificate in Water and Wastewater systems, equivalent experience, or a combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of regulations and compliance as it relates to waster and wastewater systems.

Experience and Technical Skills Required:
  • Valid Class 5 Operator's License or willingness to upgrade.
  • Ability to be On-Call and have strong problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong organization and leadership skills.

Abilities and Competencies Required:
  • Sound judgment and willingness to learn the technical aspect of utility systems.
  • Effective public relations skills.
  • Adaptability in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Effective problem-solving and communication skills.
