Position Description :

The McGill University Gerald Bronfman Department of Oncology in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences is inviting applications for a full-time Contract Academic Staff position at the rank of Assistant Professor (Clinical) based at the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC). This will be a Contract Academic Staff position and does not confer eligibility for tenure. This appointment is for a temporary medical leave replacement.

The McGill University Gerald Bronfman Department of Oncology is a leader in academic medicine. Our educational and research missions support excellent and innovative clinical programs across our teaching hospitals. The successful candidate will join an academic and high-volume comprehensive division of radiation oncology at the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC)-a major teaching hospital affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Canada's internationally renowned McGill University, located in the vibrant and multicultural city of Montreal, in the province of Quebec.

The Division of Radiation Oncology of the MUHC is located at the Cedars Cancer Centre on the Glen campus of the MUHC in a vibrant research, clinical, and training environment opened in May 2015. State-of-the-art equipment includes 6 True-beam accelerators, 1 Cyberknife, 1 Nucletron HDR afterloader for brachytherapy, 3 CT-simulators, and one 3T MRI simulator. PET-CT is available on-site for treatment planning purposes. Specialty radiation therapy techniques offered by the department include IORT, HDR brachytherapy, fractionated radiosurgery, SABR, IMRT, IGRT, 3D-conformal radiotherapy, and Cyberknife and Linac-based stereotactic radiosurgery.

The division also offers a large spectrum of research programs which includes strong participation in co-operative groups including NRG (RTOG, NSABP, GOG), CCTG and COG, as well as investigator-initiated and translational research. Close collaboration with our world-renowned Medical Physics Unit is a major strength. The division has developed a translational research platform for the identification of biomarkers of response to new therapies and a strong translational radiation biology research program with laboratories at the Research Institute of the MUHC, providing access to outstanding core facilities and expertise, including a transgenic mouse facility, imaging facility and flow cytometry.

Job Duties :

The successful candidate will be based primarily (at least 60% of time) at the MUHC's Cedars Cancer Centre, although duties may include off-site clinics and coverage within the McGill RUIS. They will be expected to demonstrate a track record of previous experience in conducting and coordinating original research at the clinical and / or basic science levels. The incumbent will also be expected to participate in division / department teaching and mentoring of students and residents, and in continuing education activities.

The incumbent will be involved in the academic activities of the McGill University Gerald Bronfman Department of Oncology; they will be expected to demonstrate aptitude, enthusiasm, and excellence in clinical education. The successful candidate will also be expected to be actively involved in all aspects of McGill's academic mission (i.e., research, teaching, supervision of students and residents, and involvement in academic and administrative committees).

Qualifications and Education Requirements :

Candidates must :

• Hold an MD degree (or equivalent);
• Have completed subspecialty training in Radiation Oncology;
• Have completed additional post-residency training, or have plans for post-residency training, such as a clinical fellowship, MSc. or PhD.
• Special consideration will be given to candidates with sub-specialization in breast cancer, genito-urinary tumors and SBRT;
• Be certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent);
• Hold certification, or be eligible for, licensure in the province of Quebec;
• Be certified by the Collège des médecins du Québec;
• Demonstrate scientific productivity, including publications in the field of radiation oncology, and should be able to provide expertise in designing, conducting, and analyzing quality improvement, clinical or basic science research projects;
• Bilingual language skills (French and English) are preferred, or a commitment to acquire these language skills at the level needed to practice medicine in Quebec. Candidates should be able to interact in English and in French with patients, families and health care professionals.
