Role Title : Data Steward Specialist
Location : Toronto, ON, Canada
Duration : Long-term Contract
Job Summary :
The Data Steward Specialist is part of the Enterprise Data Governance Team and plays a crucial role in advancing the data strategy and maintaining existing Data Governance Practices. This role provides an opportunity to balance business enablement with data governance to ensure the trust and protection of data assets.
Responsibilities :
Business Domain Representation : Act as the face of the business domain, fully understanding and assisting business needs to implement data governance mandates.
Development and Maintenance : Support the development, maintenance, and enhancement of data governance standards, processes, and practices, focusing on specific business domains.
Enterprise Adoption : Support the implementation and adoption of data governance across the enterprise.
Data Inventory Management : Work with technology and business users to ensure data is understood and reflected in the Data Inventory, enabling people to find the data they need.
Data Discovery Analysis : Analyze and interpret data discovery results, identifying potential issues related to data governance, privacy, security, and other policies.
Data Catalog Creation : Create a data catalog that defines and organizes all sensitive data elements using tools like MS Purview and Collibra.
Sensitive Data Handling : Remediate sensitive data handling gaps identified by data solutions, focusing on securing data for specific business domains.
Data Retention Management : Track and triage data retained beyond the retention duration and find solutions to remediate.
Data Loss Prevention : Apply knowledge in Data Loss Prevention (DLP), encryption, data classification & handling, End User Computing (EUC), and Personal Information (PI) for privacy.
Requirement Definition and Analysis : Support requirement definition and analysis for the enterprise data platform, connecting people to the data they need.
Strategic Support : Support strategic decisions, issues, risks, and milestones related to data initiatives.
Qualifications :
Experience : 1-4 years of applied data governance and Artificial Intelligence (AI) experience, with expertise in managing unstructured data.
Microsoft Products : Expert in Microsoft products like PowerPoint and Excel.
Communication Skills : Excellent communication and presentation skills.
Mindset : Agile, practical, customer service-oriented mindset, with a passion for learning and working in a fast-paced environment.
Industry Experience : Experience in financial services and insurance is an asset.
Clearance : Must be Protected-B Clearance ready, obtained from the RCMP.
Certifications : Data certification in Data Management or Data Governance is an asset (e.g., DGSP or CDMP).
Technical Knowledge : Working knowledge of data governance and management technology (e.g., Collibra, Microsoft Purview).
Regulatory Compliance : Understanding of data governance and AI principles, attention to detail, time management, and problem-solving abilities.
Metadata Analysis : Experience in metadata analysis and tagging, using Microsoft products, Purview, and minimal SQL coding via Databricks.
Communication : Ability to communicate technical details to business users.
Monitoring and Testing : Monitoring and testing functionalities and environments.
Role Profile :
As the Subject Matter Expert (SME) and key point of contact for those creating and consuming data within their domain, the Data Steward Specialist works with various data governance stakeholders to establish data management standards for the company's Enterprise Platform (EP) project. This includes :
Critical Data Elements (CDEs) : Analyze existing data documentation to identify CDEs, define and document data definitions, data mapping, business rules, data classification, and data quality (DQ) rules for CDEs.
Data Access Requirements : Define data access requirements for EP data.
Policy Establishment : Contribute to the establishment of historical data retention policy, compliance / privacy policy, and security policy.
Business Support : Support business users with data questions and facilitate discussions to help them understand and access EP data required for their business decisions.
Data Governance Roadmap : Work with stakeholders to implement actions outlined in the Data Governance Roadmap, including building data glossaries, defining CDEs, and DQ rules.
Data Awareness : Spread data awareness across the organization and promote data literacy and data-driven decisions to maximize the use and value of data for the business.
Certifications Required :
Protected-B Clearance : Must be ready to obtain Protected-B Clearance from the RCMP.
Data Certification : Data certification in Data Management or Data Governance is an asset (e.g., DGSP or CDMP).
