Job Title: Manufacturing Mechanical Engineering SpecialistJob DescriptionThe Manufacturing Mechanical Engineering Specialist leads the design, development, and optimization of mechanical and electromechanical systems, with a strong focus on electronics and aerospace manufacturing. This role combines hands-on manufacturing engineering, process improvement, and equipment troubleshooting with a temporary supervisory assignment on an evening shift. The specialist uses 3D modeling and CAD tools to create production-ready designs, supports radar systems and related equipment, and applies lean and statistical methods to improve safety, quality, and efficiency across the operation.
Responsibilities
- Conduct research and apply findings to the planning, design, and development of mechanical and electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, and machines.
- Evaluate and analyze mechanical products to determine cost effectiveness, efficiency, and suitability for production.
- Develop and implement production processes required for the manufacture of new products, ensuring manufacturability and quality.
- Utilize 3D modeling software to generate design concepts, final models, and production-ready prints for manufacturing.
- Use CAD software for 2D layout of equipment and workspaces to maximize efficiency and ergonomics.
- Support the technical development of radar systems and supporting equipment, and help build associated skills related to radar systems across the organization.
- Create, maintain, and update Engineering Change Order documentation to support engineering change requests.
- Perform troubleshooting on production equipment and implement process improvements to reduce downtime and enhance throughput.
- Research new and emerging technologies related to safety and manufacturing processes, and recommend improvements where appropriate.
- Lead projects involving the design, specification, installation, and startup of ergonomic solutions, automation systems, and test stations.
- Apply statistical methods and lean manufacturing principles to analyze products and processes, enhancing safety, quality, efficiency, reliability, ergonomics, and throughput.
- Establish programs and conduct studies to improve industrial health and safety and to identify and correct fire and other hazards.
- Develop maintenance standards, schedules, and programs to support reliable operation of production equipment.
- Complete ad-hoc engineering and operations assignments as directed by the Operations Manager.
- Serve in a supervisory role for approximately 12–18 months on an afternoon/evening shift, overseeing daily operations while performing manufacturing engineering work.
- Develop daily schedules and performance metrics for the afternoon/evening shift team.
- Work collaboratively in a team environment and provide guidance to RF test technicians, quality personnel, product control staff, and assemblers on the evening shift.
- Demonstrate and promote the proper use of simple hand tools, machine tools, and mechanical measuring devices in the production environment.
Essential Skills- At least 5+ years of manufacturing engineering experience, including some supervisory or team lead responsibility.
- Strong background in manufacturing engineering within electronics or aerospace environments.
- Proficiency with SolidWorks or AutoCAD for mechanical design and layout.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or Industrial Engineering.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate across functions.
- Ability to demonstrate proper use of simple hand tools, machine tools, and mechanical measuring devices.
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite of programs (such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
Additional Skills & Qualifications- Experience with IPC Class 3 standards, including familiarity with IPC 610 and IPC 6012, is a strong asset.
- Experience in manufacturing engineering within electronics or aerospace industries is preferred.
- Hands-on experience with SolidWorks 3D modeling for concept development and production-ready drawings.
- Experience using AutoCAD for 2D equipment and workspace layout.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and statistical methods for process and product analysis.
- Experience supporting radar systems or RF-related test and manufacturing environments is beneficial.
- Ability to lead projects involving ergonomic improvements, automation, and test station design and implementation.
- Experience developing maintenance standards, schedules, and programs for production equipment.
Work EnvironmentThis role is based in a manufacturing environment that supports electronics and aerospace-related products, including radar systems and associated equipment. For approximately the first 12–18 months, the position follows a 10-hour evening shift schedule from 4:30 . to late evening, Monday through Thursday, after which it transitions back to a regular shift schedule. During the evening shift period, the specialist works closely with and supervises an evening team that includes RF test technicians, quality personnel, product control staff, and assemblers, while also performing hands-on manufacturing engineering tasks. The environment involves working around production equipment, test stations, and mechanical and electromechanical systems, with regular use of SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office tools. The role emphasizes safety, ergonomics, and adherence to industrial health and safety standards while supporting efficient, high-quality production operations.
