Job Title: Manufacturing Mechanical Engineering Specialist
Job Description

The Manufacturing Mechanical Engineering Specialist leads the design, development, and optimization of mechanical and electromechanical systems, with a strong focus on electronics and aerospace manufacturing. This role combines hands-on manufacturing engineering, process improvement, and equipment troubleshooting with a temporary supervisory assignment on an evening shift. The specialist uses 3D modeling and CAD tools to create production-ready designs, supports radar systems and related equipment, and applies lean and statistical methods to improve safety, quality, and efficiency across the operation.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research and apply findings to the planning, design, and development of mechanical and electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, and machines.
  • Evaluate and analyze mechanical products to determine cost effectiveness, efficiency, and suitability for production.
  • Develop and implement production processes required for the manufacture of new products, ensuring manufacturability and quality.
  • Utilize 3D modeling software to generate design concepts, final models, and production-ready prints for manufacturing.
  • Use CAD software for 2D layout of equipment and workspaces to maximize efficiency and ergonomics.
  • Support the technical development of radar systems and supporting equipment, and help build associated skills related to radar systems across the organization.
  • Create, maintain, and update Engineering Change Order documentation to support engineering change requests.
  • Perform troubleshooting on production equipment and implement process improvements to reduce downtime and enhance throughput.
  • Research new and emerging technologies related to safety and manufacturing processes, and recommend improvements where appropriate.
  • Lead projects involving the design, specification, installation, and startup of ergonomic solutions, automation systems, and test stations.
  • Apply statistical methods and lean manufacturing principles to analyze products and processes, enhancing safety, quality, efficiency, reliability, ergonomics, and throughput.
  • Establish programs and conduct studies to improve industrial health and safety and to identify and correct fire and other hazards.
  • Develop maintenance standards, schedules, and programs to support reliable operation of production equipment.
  • Complete ad-hoc engineering and operations assignments as directed by the Operations Manager.
  • Serve in a supervisory role for approximately 12–18 months on an afternoon/evening shift, overseeing daily operations while performing manufacturing engineering work.
  • Develop daily schedules and performance metrics for the afternoon/evening shift team.
  • Work collaboratively in a team environment and provide guidance to RF test technicians, quality personnel, product control staff, and assemblers on the evening shift.
  • Demonstrate and promote the proper use of simple hand tools, machine tools, and mechanical measuring devices in the production environment.
Essential Skills

  • Strong background in manufacturing engineering within electronics or aerospace environments.
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks or AutoCAD for mechanical design and layout.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or Industrial Engineering.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate across functions.
  • Ability to demonstrate proper use of simple hand tools, machine tools, and mechanical measuring devices.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite of programs (such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
Additional Skills & Qualifications
