Overview

Thompson Construction is seeking a Business Intelligence and IT Support Specialist to join our IT team. Reporting to the IT Manager, this role supports end users across the organization while transforming data into meaningful insights that drive informed business decisions.

This position blends hands-on BI development with Tier 1–2 IT support, working with teams across our offices and job sites from Calgary to Fort McMurray. The ideal candidate is analytical, curious, people-focused, and comfortable moving between data analysis and user support in a fast-paced construction environment.

Business Intelligence and Data Analytics

  • Design, build, and maintain dashboards and reports using Microsoft Power BI
  • Analyze data from multiple systems to identify trends, risks, and improvement opportunities
  • Partner with stakeholders to understand business needs and translate them into effective BI solutions
  • Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and reliability across reporting outputs
  • Write, optimize, and maintain SQL queries to extract, transform, and analyze data
  • Support and automate ETL processes where applicable
  • Present insights and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Document data models, dashboards, and reporting standards
  • Promote data-driven decision-making across departments

IT and Desktop Support

  • Provide Tier 1–2 support for desktops, laptops, printers, mobile devices, and standard business applications
  • Troubleshoot Windows, Microsoft 365, and network-related issues
  • Configure, deploy, and maintain workstations and peripherals in accordance with IT standards
  • Manage user accounts, permissions, and licensing using Active Directory, Azure AD, and Microsoft 365
  • Support onboarding and offboarding activities, including device setup and access provisioning
  • Qualifications

  • High school diploma required
  • Minimum 2 years of Business Intelligence experience using Microsoft Power BI
  • 2–4 years of desktop support experience or a combination of relevant IT experience
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to simplify complex topics
  • Demonstrated interest in people, process improvement, and business outcomes
  • Self-motivated with a strong sense of ownership and accountability
