About Our Opportunity

The Program Admin Officer will be responsible for the expansion of the Nova Scotia Before and After Program into school sites across the province.  As the Program Admin Officer you will work closely with the Regional Centres for Education and the Conseil scolaire acadien provincial and third party providers, maintaining strong, collaborative, internal and external relationships and supporting every aspect of NS BAP from site identification to staff and participant recruitment, program promotion, staff training, and ongoing monitoring for quality assurance.

This position reports to the Executive Lead – Nova Scotia Before and After Program (NS BAP) of Communities, Sport, and Recreation.

Primary Accountabilities

Core services of the Regional Consultant include :

  • Coordinating the outreach to, and onboarding of, NS BAP providers.
  • Supporting program promotion and staff and participant recruitment and retention.
  • Facilitating NS BAP mandatory training for NS BAP staff,
  • Monitoring and supporting inclusive, play based, outdoor recreation program development, implementation and quality.
  • Supporting grant processes and navigating fee reduction and subsidy systems.
  • Developing and maintaining strong partnerships with Regional Centres for Education, CSAP, school staff, third party providers, and community stakeholders; and
  • Capacity building and training delivery for NS BAP staff.

Qualifications and Experience

You have a university degree in Early Childhood Education, Recreation Management, Child and Youth Studies or a related field or the equivalent obtained through training and experience with a minimum of five (5) years’ recent experience in a leadership role in the area of recreation or childcare management.

In addition, you possess the following :

  • Experience developing and directing early childhood / school age outdoor play based recreation programs.
  • The ability to apply knowledge of recreational programming and best practices to promote inclusion.
  • Strong facilitation and / or adult education skills.
  • The ability to foster a team approach to problem solving and continual improvement.
  • The ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with multiple stakeholders.
  • The ability to analyze procedural and / or program problems, develop, recommend, and implement solutions as needed; and
  • The ability to apply knowledge, experience, and commitment in the areas of race relations, cross cultural understanding, human rights, and diversity,
  • Bilingual language would be an asset.

    A valid driver’s license for travel inside and outside of the province is required.

    We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools : written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks .

    Equivalency

    An equivalent combination of training, education and experience will be considered. Related equivalencies may include, but are not limited to :

  • A related master’s degree and three (3) years of related experience
  • A diploma in a related discipline and seven (7) years of related experience
  • Applicants relying on education and experience equivalencies must demonstrate such equivalencies in their application.

    Working Conditions

    Work is primarily based in an office environment with a requirement to travel to worksite locations. This position supports the Tri County, Valley and South Shore school locations. The office space’s location will depend on the location of the successful candidate and departmental approvals.

    Work is performed in an office environment where a stressful working environment may be present.

    Salary Range :   $2,556.10 - $3,107.16 Bi-Weekly
