Position Overview
Ecora is seeking a highly experienced Senior Civil Technician (T5) to join our Civil Engineering team. At the T5 level, you are not just a drafter; you are a technical lead. You will be responsible for taking complex municipal and land development projects from conceptual design through to detailed construction drawings with minimal supervision.
In this role, you will act as a key bridge between the engineering team and junior technical staff, ensuring high standards of quality control, design accuracy, and efficiency in our Civil 3D workflows.
Key Responsibilities
1. Advanced Design & Drafting
- Lead the preparation of detailed engineering drawings for land development and municipal infrastructure projects (subdivisions, roadworks, site servicing, sanitary/storm sewer systems, and water mains).
- Utilize AutoCAD Civil 3D to its full potential for surface modeling, corridor design, pipe network creation, and volume calculations.
- Resolve complex grading and servicing challenges independently before bringing them to the Project Engineer.
2. Project Management Support & QA/QC
- Coordinate the drawing production schedule to meet project deadlines and budgets.
- Perform rigorous Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) reviews on drawings produced by junior technicians (T1–T3) to ensure adherence to Ecora standards and municipal bylaws.
- Assist in the preparation of quantity take-offs, cost estimates, and contract documents (MMCD standards).
3. Mentorship & Leadership
- Act as a technical mentor for junior staff, providing guidance on Civil 3D best practices and drafting standards.
- Troubleshoot software issues and help maintain/improve the company's CAD standards and template library.
- Liaise with external utility providers, municipalities, and clients to resolve technical design queries.
Qualifications
- Education: Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or equivalent.
- Designation: Registered (or eligible for immediate registration) as an AScT (Applied Science Technologist) with ASTTBC.
- Experience: 8+ years of progressive experience in municipal infrastructure or land development consulting.
- Technical Mastery:
- Expert-level proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D (styles, data shortcuts, assemblies, gravity/pressure networks).
- Strong knowledge of MMCD (Master Municipal Construction Documents) and local municipal design guidelines.
- Experience with vehicle tracking software (e.g., AutoTurn) and stormwater modeling is an asset.
Why you'll love working with us:
- Be part of a team that actually loves what they do
- Shape projects from day one, your ideas will matter
- A culture that celebrates curiosity, collaboration, and fun
- Opportunities to learn, grow, and level up in your career
What we're looking for:
Someone who's passionate, driven, and not afraid to bring fresh ideas to the table. If you love challenges, thrive in fast-paced environments, and want to make an impact, this is your playground.
Perks & Fun Stuff:
- Flexible work options (yes, sometimes pajamas are allowed)
- Team outings, events, and plenty of laughs
- Growth opportunities that match your ambition
