Psychiatrist - Mental Health and Addiction Services

  • Permanent 0.8 FTE 64 hours per fortnight

About the Role

The purpose of this role is to provide quality specialist psychiatry services across Inpatient, Community, and Addictions teams, to support clients of the service alongside our skilled Nursing and Allied Health staff. This role covers acute care and on-call work. The Mental Health and Addiction Services is located on the Timaru Hospital campus.

About You

In South Canterbury, we deliver a Strengths Based Model of Care and are seeking someone who will bring their clinical expertise to our Mental Health and Addictions Service, which is recognized by Government and the general public alike as a priority need area. The ability to maintain good working relationships with colleagues from all disciplines is essential.

We are seeking an experienced Psychiatrist who is eligible for Vocational Registration with the NZ Medical Council and / or a Fellow of the Australasian College of Psychiatrists (or equivalent).

Additionally, we are seeking someone who demonstrates :

  • Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth.
  • Experience in projects / initiatives which give effect to Te Tiriti principles and frameworks, and the application of Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings.

  • Salary Range

    This role is covered by the terms and conditions of the Senior Medical Officers Collective, and the salary will be in accordance with the Pay Scale, dependent on relevant experience.
