Senior Site Reliability Engineer - Establish and SRE Practice (Contract Position)
Number of Positions : 1 Filled : 0 Duration : 6 months
Location : Toronto, ON, CA
Must be eligible to work in Canada
Hybrid position, 2-3d / month onsite in Toronto mandatory
Roles and responsibilities :
The consultant will be building and SRE practice from the ground up. He / she would have previous experience / expertise building SRE practice at other large institutions.
We are seeking a highly experienced Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) to take charge of establishing and driving an SRE practice for a leading organization. This is not a conceptual role—we need someone with real-world experience in a large organization who has successfully implemented an SRE practice from the ground up.
We need an SRE expert who can hit the ground running, structure the team, define reliability metrics, and deliver tangible results without handholding.
Must have skills and experience :
Proven experience establishing an SRE practice for a large organization (not just conceptual knowledge)
8+ years as a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) with expertise in high-availability systems
Deep understanding of SLOs, SLAs, and system reliability best practices
Strong leadership skills to define structure and drive progress within the team
Proactive monitoring expertise—must know when apps / systems are about to fail, not just react when they do
Experience with Kubernetes, container platforms, authentication, and database services
Infrastructure automation experience (Terraform, Ansible, Chef, etc.)
Strong troubleshooting and incident management skills
Prior experience in highly regulated industries (insurance, healthcare, financial services) is a plus
