Duties
The Senior Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of a variety of agricultural equipment, implements, light and heavy vehicles and all-terrain vehicles at an AAFC research facility. This position requires knowledge of general mechanical equipment, including diagnostic and specialized equipment, electronic systems, and hydraulics. The successful candidate will be a self-starter who is organized, adaptable, and works well independently.

Intent of the process
The immediate need is to staff a position in Outlook on a permanent basis.
A pool of qualified and partially qualified candidates may be established and may be used to staff other positions in the locations listed on a temporary or permanent basis.

EDUCATION :
A secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and / or experience.

EXPERIENCE :
Experience in operating, maintaining, and repairing gas and diesel vehicles AND farm and agricultural equipment.
Experience in troubleshooting units and recommending and implementing corrective measures.
Experience in basic computer skills and conducting internet searches.

EDUCATION :
Certification in farm or automotive mechanics.
EXPERIENCE :
Experience in welding and metal fabrication (e.g. folder, metal lathe, metal shear).

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT :
Possession of a valid, class 5 Saskatchewan driver’s license, or other provincial / territorial equivalency.
Ability and willingness to work with hazardous materials through the use of safety equipment.
Ability and willingness to work outdoors during inclement weather conditions.
Ability and willingness to work overtime including weekends.
Known allergies must be controlled through the use of personal protective equipment and / or medication and must not impinge upon the duties to be performed.
