Description de posteBachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related discipline preferred; equivalent experience in SMB IT leadership roles strongly considered. 6+ years of experience managing IT systems and infrastructure in small to mid‑sized organizations. Hands‑on experience with Microsoft 365, SharePoint, and desktop / networking environments. Familiarity with remote communications tools (Starlink, satellite phones, InReach devices, multi‑router Wi‑Fi layouts). Understanding of cyber security best practices, backup procedures, user access control, and device lifecycle management. Practical experience with vendor management, including managing subscriptions, procurement, and service contracts. Comfortable working with non‑technical users, troubleshooting calmly, and documenting key IT processes clearly. Preferred certifications : CompTIA, ITIL, Cisco, Microsoft, or similar. Strategic thinker with hands‑on experience modernizing IT systems in a growing organization. Familiar with unique needs of SMB IT environments—pragmatic, resourceful, cost‑aware. Enjoys creating order, documentation, and infrastructure in dynamic environments. Balances system reliability, field asset management, and user support with minimal oversight. Collaborative enough to bring in vendors and outside help when needed. Tech‑savvy but approachable, solutions‑first mindset. Compensation : CA$110,000 – CA$130,000 / year base salary. Location : Osoyoos, BC. Health, dental, and vision benefits. Interim staff housing available for the right candidate if relocation is required.

MATRIX is a national company providing camps, logistics, and aviation management services to clients in the resource and service sectors. With over 25 years of experience, Matrix is a trusted leader in remote camp management and logistical solutions across Canada’s challenging terrains, including the Arctic, mining, and exploration regions.
IT and Field Systems Manager is a full‑time, Osoyoos‑based role. Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
What You’ll Be Doing
This SMB IT role blends hands‑on problem solving with strategic planning. You’ll be the key technology partner for our office team (≈25 users) and the steady hand behind systems supporting seasonal field deployments.
Responsibilities
- Manage all IT policies, systems, hardware, software, and security across the head office, ensuring systems are secure, reliable, and easy to use for non‑technical staff.
- Establish and maintain IT risk management practices, including data protection, user access controls, and incident response preparedness.
- Support the setup, rotation, and management of field communications equipment (Starlink, satellite phones, InReach devices).
- Oversee cloud‑based platforms (Microsoft 365, SharePoint, SaaS finance, scheduling, payroll tools), ensuring smooth integration and daily usability.
- Lead development of a fit‑for‑purpose technology roadmap supporting Matrix’s operational expansion and evolving field needs.
- Coordinate backup schedules, data security practices, device and identity management, and user access permissions.
- Implement cost‑effective IT solutions that scale with business growth, balancing in‑house management with third‑party vendor support where appropriate.
- Design and procure remote surveillance setups (solar‑powered monitoring systems) and coordinate Wi‑Fi infrastructure kits for temporary remote camps.
- Promote cybersecurity awareness across the team through simple training and user‑friendly guidelines for safe technology use in office and field environments.
- Act as a calm, responsive, and resourceful IT lead supporting end users who may not have a technical background.
Travel Expectations
Estimated 10–20 days / year to attend relevant trade shows / confferences and support complex field‑based tech installs. Most installs can be managed remotely with on‑ground support from field‑based trades teams.
