Description de poste

At BWXT Nuclear Energy Canada Inc. (BWXT NEC), we are committed to excellence in every business initiative. With nearly 500 workers across locations in Peterborough, Toronto, and Arnprior, BWXT NEC supplies nuclear fuel and fuel channel components, services, equipment and parts for the CANDU nuclear power industry.

We are looking for an Engineering Lead, Target Delivery System for our Peterborough, Ontario site. BWXT NEC's Fuel Handling and Engineered Solutions group is involved in the design, manufacture, development, testing, parts supply, and service of on-power refueling, reactor maintenance, and nuclear medicine delivery tooling sold around the world. We aim to solve some of the Nuclear Industry’s most challenging problems. Today, BWXT’s equipment is being used in most of the nuclear power plants in Canada and is critical to delivering carbon-free energy production and lifesaving medical isotopes.

JOB SUMMARY

The Target Delivery System Engineering Lead position provides technical leadership for the multidisciplinary engineering team supporting the Target Delivery System (TDS) maintenance and operations at Darlington NPGS. The team is accountable for the safe and reliable operation of the TDS and will include design, development, operational support, reliability enhancements, preventative / predictive maintenance planning, outage support, and field and installation activities. The engineering team will be accountable for the overall system health and will be comprised of Responsible System Engineers (RSE’s) including mechanical, electrical, systems, and software functions. The Engineering Lead acts as the single point of contact for technical items with the customer interface.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leadership of a multifunctional engineering team to maintain the operational requirements of TDS. Scope of work to be managed includes providing daily support to operations, conducting required design changes and executing maintenance (planned / unplanned).
  • Facilitate proper plans and schedules (level 3) with individual contributors, and ownership of the cost / schedule commitments of your team.
  • Create and enforce the use of Task Definition Forms (TDFs) for work assignments.
  • Actively participate with the TDS Manager in resource planning, recruitment, interviewing, and onboarding.
  • Contribute directly to the support of the system. Knowledge of the design and design change process is required.
  • Respond to production concerns, leading the cross-functional team through effective problem-solving, troubleshooting, and decision-making.
  • Interface with key partner resources : Laurentis Energy Partners, OPG operations, BWXT Medical operations, and BWXT Field Services.
  • Provide support for parts and kits supply, and for the execution of regular maintenance. Portions of this maintenance may take place during a reactor outage and diligent planning in accordance with utility governance is required.
  • Provide immediate response to unplanned maintenance. Due to the sensitivity of the supply timing, 24 / 7 support is required in response to issues that affect planned production.
  • Participate in, and lead, internal and external meetings, such as design reviews, preparing and presenting technical data.
  • Provide technical direction / decisions and oversight of design activities including technical review and verification of documentation and / or drawings, as applicable.
  • Maintain detailed knowledge of the nuclear codes and standards applicable to the Canadian Nuclear environment.
  • Leading by example, assure compliance and adherence to processes (including internal Business Management System), industry codes and standards, quality systems, policies, and contractual requirements.
  • Provide assurance of health and safety associated with the execution of all projects and activities.
  • Travel (approximately 30%) will be required. The core support team is stationed in Peterborough, Ontario. The TDS is operated in Clarington, Ontario. The isotopes are processed in Kanata, Ontario.
