Labour and Employment Lawyer
BC Housing is seeking a Labour and Employment Lawyer to provide strategic legal advice and support on labour and employment matters that impact the organization and its workforce. The successful candidate will handle a broad range of issues, including disability management, workplace investigations, harassment claims, and collective agreement disputes. This role also involves drafting and negotiating employment contracts, settlement agreements, and collective agreements while ensuring compliance with WorkSafeBC regulations and promoting equity and human rights.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
- Provide legal advice and support on a wide range of labour and employment matters, including unionized workplace issues such as grievances, accommodation issues, collective agreement disputes, and workplace investigations.
- Advise on human rights, employment equity, and compliance with WorkSafeBC regulations.
- Draft and negotiate employment contracts, collective agreements, and severance agreements.
- Collaborate with the Human Resources and Employee Rights team on policies, strategies, and workplace issues.
- Handle human rights complaints and advise on EDI and belonging initiatives.
- Manage litigation related to workplace issues.
