Canada’s National Ballet School (NBS) is excited to invite applications for the part-time, contract position of Weekend Residence Counsellor, working every other Saturday 9AM - Sunday 5PM; every weekend in July. Your Role : As a Weekend Residence Counsellor at Canada’s National Ballet School, you will be a vital member of our Residence team. Reporting to the Head of Residence, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of the boarding students. As the Weekend Residence Counsellor, you will assist in delivering high-quality administrative and customer service support and contributing to the efficient day-to-day functioning of the Residence. You will work closely with students, ensuring an organized and welcoming environment for all students at NBS. Duties and Responsibilities : Establish a compassionate and nurturing environment for students by providing emotional support within a relationship of respect and healthy boundaries with each student. Chaperone the students – escort them to class, and take them to meals, activities and events. Ensure students are eating healthy and balanced meals by supervising meal times and dispensing vitamins and medications as directed. Work as a team with other Child and Youth Counsellors and Residence leadership Contribute to the social development of the students by monitoring student behaviour and peer interactions, provide guidance in dealing with conflict, and develop relationships of trust and respect. Provide guidance for students to ensure their safety in Residence and the community Respond swiftly to any accidents or incidents, ensuring appropriate actions are taken and any incident / accident reports are completed promptly. Ensure all medications are dispensed per NBS policies, procedures and guidelines and student medical records. Maintain a high level of professionalism complemented by considerable discretion, diplomacy and confidentiality to effectively manage communications with parents, medical professionals and staff. Skills and Qualifications : Relevant diploma in Child Youth Work, Social Work, Child Studies or equivalent (i.e. psychology, sociology) and 2+ years of directly related work experience working with children aged 10-19. Must be First Aid Certified (minimum Level C) Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively manage communications with parents. Ability to complete tasks with a high degree of attention to detail. Proficient technical skills including Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) and G-suite. Must demonstrate problem-solving and conflict-management skills. Work well in a team and independently in a fast-paced environment. Ability to use public transportation to take students to / from appointments. Successful candidates must supply Canada’s National Ballet School with a Vulnerable Sector Check by the School’s Child Abuse / Sexual Abuse Prevention Policy; this will be coordinated through the Human Resources Department at NBS .
