Description de posteAbundant learning opportunities and challenging work that grows your knowledge, skills and abilities Encouragement to chart your own career path, putting you in control of your future Personal character is the foundation of our culture; CBN’s 7 Core Principles guide behaviours and underpin community Equity, diversity and inclusivity are important; we foster and develop a respectful work environment Operate Scanning Probe Microscopes (SPM), primarily qPlus AFM and STM Use additional tools such as Field Ion Microscopes, XPS, mass spectrometry and MBE systems Work in ultra‑high vacuum (UHV) and cryogenic conditions using vacuum chambers, UHV pumps, bakeout equipment, liquid nitrogen and helium, and helium recovery equipment Participate in experimental design, scientific literature reviews, troubleshooting and solution development aligned with company goals Analyze data using specialized SPM software, Python scripts, statistical tools and graphing platforms to extract meaningful insights from large datasets Present findings in a clear, concise format that supports well‑defined conclusions tailored to the intended audience Write and tailor clear, concise technical reports for internal documentation and external peer‑reviewed publications, adapting content to suit the target audience Present research outcomes at company meetings and scientific conferences, ensuring clarity and relevance for diverse audiences Perform cryogen fills when needed and follow internal SOPs Participate in scheduled teamwork and cryogen fills Follow safety protocols, champion best laboratory and workplace health and safety practices, and contribute to improving procedures when appropriate Master’s or Ph.D. degree in Science or Engineering Key asset : Experience with Scanning Tunneling Microscopy or Atomic Force Microscopy (qPlus or frequency modulation non‑contact AFM) Key asset : Experience with Ultra High Vacuum (UHV) equipment Experience with X‑ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy Experience with Molecular Beam Epitaxy, SEM, FIB Quantum computing research experience Programming abilities with Python and LabView are a plus Critical thinking, analytical and problem‑solving skills Interpersonal, communication, teamwork and collaboration skills Organization, time management and prioritization skills Growth mindset, self‑directed Fluency in English (reading, writing, verbal) Ability to occasionally work outside of standard business hours as required Ability to obtain and maintain Government of Canada Reliability (Level I) clearance
Position Summary
We are developing advanced nanotechnology to extend our manufacturing capabilities. This technology has broad applicability to secure documents of all types, quantum computing, medical uses, and environmental remediation. As a Scientist, you will be part of the dynamic surface science R&D team developing this technology in a cutting‑edge laboratory, using unique surface science instrumentation to conduct research and develop novel approaches to bottom‑up atomically precise manufacturing.
