Job Type: Part-Time, Fixed Term (0.5 FTE; 6-month contract)

Salary range: $55,000–$68,000 / year, annualized

As a Purchaser, you'll play a critical role in ensuring the right products are available at the right time, helping our branches, sales teams, and customers succeed through effective inventory management and purchasing decisions.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys problem-solving, working with data, and collaborating across teams to keep business operations running smoothly. You'll balance inventory levels, forecast demand, coordinate with vendor partners, and support large customer projects while contributing to a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and customer focus.

The Purchaser is responsible for managing assigned vendor relationships and product categories through timely replenishment, inventory analysis, cost-conscious purchasing decisions, and responsive stakeholder support. You'll help maintain healthy inventory levels, improve purchasing efficiency, and contribute to a collaborative, high-performing team environment.


Core Responsibilities:


Purchasing and Inventory Management:

  • Replenish inventory and place purchase orders for assigned vendor partners and product categories
  • Monitor inventory levels, demand trends, and product performance to maintain appropriate stock levels while minimizing shortages and excess inventory
  • Review inventory data and purchasing activity to support informed and cost-conscious purchasing decisions
  • Manage vendor order confirmations, pricing updates, and expected arrival information accurately and proactively
  • Create and maintain product codes, contract pricing, and inventory records within company systems

Vendor and Supply Chain Coordination:

  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with vendor partners
  • Support purchasing strategies and process improvements that enhance supply chain efficiency and inventory performance
  • Coordinate order requirements and delivery timelines with vendors to meet operational and customer needs
  • Assist in resolving supply, pricing, availability, and inventory-related issues in a timely and professional manner

Project and Stakeholder Support:

  • Manage purchasing requirements for large projects, ensuring products are ordered at the appropriate time to support project schedules
  • Collaborate closely with sales teams, branch teams, project coordinators, and other stakeholders to understand business needs and purchasing priorities
  • Respond to internal and external purchasing inquiries promptly, professionally, and with a solutions-focused mindset
  • Support organizational goals by balancing customer requirements, inventory investments, and operational priorities

Continuous Improvement and Team Collaboration:

  • Identify opportunities to improve purchasing processes, workflows, reporting, and inventory accuracy
  • Contribute to a collaborative team culture built on accountability, trust, and continuous improvement
  • Role model Ames values while supporting a culture of respect, excellence, and ownership
  • Assist with additional duties and projects as required

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of purchasing, procurement, inventory management, or supply chain experience
  • Post-secondary education in Business, Supply Chain Management, Procurement, or a related field considered an asset
  • Relevant procurement or supply chain certification considered an asset
  • Strong understanding of purchasing principles, inventory management practices, and supply chain processes
  • Experience working with ERP systems, procurement software, or inventory management platforms
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • Successful completion of a background check may be required
