Student Accessibility Specialist, Student Services, Full-Time, 6 Month Term

Brandon University invites applications for a six-month term position in Student Accessibility Services to commence August 1, 2024, or as mutually agreed upon, subject to budget approval. Reporting to the Dean of Students, the Student Accessibility Specialist (SAS) will play a crucial role in providing services for students with disabilities.

Duties will include, but are not limited to, the following :

  • Develop and implement specialized individual and small group programming for students with disabilities in the areas of academic skills and training with assistive technology
  • Research, develop, and manage specialized support services for students including note-taking, tutoring, and alternate format services according to best practices
  • Hire and train student assistants
  • Collaborate with the Student Accessibility Coordinator (SAC) as needed in the development of programs and initiatives for students with disabilities
  • Collaborate with the University community to facilitate access and promote an increased understanding of accessibility
  • Collect, maintain, and report on usage data and records of activities. Maintain confidential files as per legislation
  • Perform other appropriate duties as assigned by the Dean of Students through consultation

Qualifications :

  • A Master’s degree or equivalent academic or professional credential in a related discipline (e.g. Disability Studies, Psychology, Education, Counselling, Social Work) is required. Applicants may seek to establish an experiential / traditional equivalency to the Master’s degree and are invited to contact the Office of the Dean of Students on how to establish equivalent academic or professional credentials.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills are required.
  • Experience in the delivery of learning assistance and knowledge of assistive technology to support individuals with disabilities is required.
  • Additional related training in mental health and / or psycho-social wellness would be an asset.
  • Experience in supervision and management of student assistants or staff is preferred.
  • Salary : Commensurate with qualifications and experience
