Aquatics Leadership Instructor

Job Description

Working with the Town of Newmarket’s Recreation and Culture Team, you will have the opportunity to make a difference and connect with the community! Working in recreation means being a part of something special, gaining valuable work experience and learning new skills. We are looking for dedicated individuals who enjoy working with others and have a passion to deliver high quality programs, events, and services. One thing is certain – you will love the experience and our participants will too!

The Successful Candidate Will

  • Plan, organize, and deliver high quality and safe leadership courses for all candidates.
  • Communicate with candidates and / or instructors regarding feedback on evaluated items, progression through the content, development opportunities and accident prevention.
  • Communicate with participants to troubleshoot and discuss any issues or concerns with the program.
  • Liaise with the programmer to discuss any concerns, issues or developments with the program, facility or participants.
  • Manage class time and preparation time, as well as arriving on time for their program.
  • Maintain a safe and tidy program space ensuring equipment is set up and stored appropriately.
  • Fill out the required paperwork that deals with health and safety issues, accidents, incidents or facility issues.

Job Requirements

  • Excellent customer service, communication, leadership, and organizational skills and sensitivity to interact with a diversity of patrons, parents, and staff in a courteous and efficient manner.
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification required.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and to exercise sound judgement.
  • Availability / flexibility to work evenings and weekends.
  • Due to the nature of the contacts of this position a Police Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the Town is required.
  • Specialized 1 – Starting $25

  • Current qualifications for any of the following : Standard First Aid and CPR-C Instructor, Bronze Examiner, Standard First Aid and CPR-C Examiner.
  • Specialized 2 – Starting $30

  • Current qualifications for any of the following : Lifesaving Society Instructor, Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor, National Lifeguard Instructor, Assistant Instructor, Aquatic Supervisor Instructor, Airway Management Instructor and National Lifeguard Examiner.
  • Specialized 3 – Starting $35

  • Current qualifications for any of the following : Lifesaving Society Instructor Trainer, National Lifeguard Instructor Trainer, Aquatic Safety Management, Stand First Aid Instructor Trainer, or other comparable certification.
  • Please Note

  • Rate of pay will be determined by Town of Newmarket staff based on applicant experience and / or program requirements.
  • Certifications are not required at time of application but must be obtained prior to job commencement. The Town of Newmarket may offer opportunities for certification.
