Job Summary

The School of Continuing Education offers short-term programs and courses that equip students with the skills they need to switch careers, upskill for a promotion, or re-enter the workforce. Most of our programs are 3-12 months long, and our students graduate with the training, practical experience, and qualifications they need to be job ready.

The School of Continuing Education is a department of UFV’s Faculty of Education, Community, and Human Development (FECHD). We have been offering high-quality lifelong education options to people in the Fraser Valley since 1974 and are well-known for our high standards and consistent quality, and high graduate employment rates. In addition to the many courses Continuing Education offers, we also provide custom courses tailored to meet the needs of businesses and organizations.

Continuing Education instructors are experienced, practicing professionals in their subject areas. They teach previously developed and/or assist in the development of course materials to meet learning outcomes, and they incorporate their expertise, real-life examples, and effective teaching strategies into the course and materials. CE instructors document their students’ attendance, participation, and progress; grade assignments and assessments; and create a student-centred learning environment that encourages student involvement and participation. They are experienced with supporting computer-based, synchronous and asynchronous courses, using various technologies and learning management systems.

The Continuing Education department invites applicants to apply to join a pool of instructors qualified to teach in the following program:
Nursing Unit Clerk Certificate Program
(Applicant must be available and willing to teach as of Fall 2026).
The program is comprised of the courses below:

  • HLTH NC02- Unit Clerk Fundamentals
  • HLTH NC03- Admissions, Transfers, Discharges, and Patient Records
  • HLTH NC04- Medical Terminology and Pharmacology I
  • HLTH NC05- Medical Terminology and Pharmacology II
  • HLTH NC06- Diagnostics
  • HLTH NC07- Laboratory Orders
  • HLTH NC08- Surgical Orders
  • HLTH NC09- Specialty Nursing Areas
  • HLTH NC10- Practicum
  • HLTH NC11- Practicum Orientation
  • HLTH NC12- Medical Imaging

Duties & Responsibilities
• Teaches students using a diverse and systematic plan of lectures, presentations, demonstrations, discussion groups, laboratory work, shop sessions, seminars, case studies, field assignments and independent or group projects.
• Develops curriculum and prepares teaching materials and outlines for courses including audio visual and web-related materials where appropriate.
• Prepares, administers and marks papers, tests, exams and other assessments to monitor and evaluate students’ progress. Provides detailed feedback on student performance.
• Assists and provides support to students and potential students by advising on program curricula and career decisions.
• Maintains effective stewardship of classroom facilities, equipment, materials, software and tools.
• Arranges for and supervises independent or group projects, field placements, laboratory work or hands-on training.
• Performs other related duties as required.
• Participate in departmental meetings as needed and may serve on committees concerning matters such as budgets, curriculum revision, and course and certificate or diploma requirements
• May support preceptors and students during the assigned practicum at the end of the program.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• Recognized Nursing Unit Clerk certificate or Bachelor of Science in Nursing from a public accredited post-secondary institution.
• Minimum 3–5 years of recent experience working in a Nursing Unit Clerk or Nurse.
• Experience working in a service role that includes communicating and cooperating with diverse populations.
• Advanced digital technology skills.
• Proficient in using Microsoft 365, Teams, Outlook and Teams.
Preferred Qualifications

• Instructor training and certification (e.g., Provincial Instructor Diploma, Train the Trainer certification, recognized teaching credential, or other educational programs for teaching adults).
• Experience teaching or mentoring adult learners, preferred.
• Advanced digital technology skills; experience with online instruction using Learning Management System (LMS) platforms such as Moodle or Brightspace.
• Commitment to supporting Indigenization and decolonization in post-secondary education, with a willingness to reflect these values in teaching practice.
