Day Camp Coordinator
Summer Temporary Position (May 4, 2026, to August 28, 2026)
The Town of Slave Lake is seeking an enthusiastic individual to serve as our Day Camp Coordinator for the 2026 Summer Splash program. This position is temporary for the 2026 season.
This is a seasonal position (May to August), working under the supervision of the Program Coordinator, the Day Camp Coordinator coordinates and supports summer programming for ages 6-12 years, including our Summer Splash Day camp program and our Playground program. These programs run onsite at our Multi-Rec Centre, in our community parks and off-site on our trips. This position ensures a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment while overseeing daily operations, staff supervision, program development, and community engagement.
The Day Camp Coordinator plays a leadership role in fostering positive experiences for participants, supporting staff performance, and ensuring all programming aligns with municipal policies, safety standards, and community expectations.

WAGE:
$20.73 - $26.12 per hour
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Program Planning & Delivery
- Develop, organize, and implement weekly camp programming that is age-appropriate, engaging, and inclusive.
- Design activities that promote physical activity, creativity, social development, and teamwork.
- Ensure all programming meets safety standards and aligns with Town policies and procedures.
- Adapt programming to meet diverse participant needs and respond to changing conditions (weather, attendance, etc.).
Leadership & Supervision
- Provide day-to-day supervision, mentorship, and leadership to Day Camp Counsellors.
- Conduct staff orientation, training, and ongoing performance feedback.
- Foster a positive, respectful, and team-oriented work environment.
- Lead by example in professionalism, safety awareness, and participant engagement.
Participant Safety & Wellbeing
- Ensure the safety, supervision, and well-being of all children in the program.
- Always maintain appropriate staff-to-participant ratios.
- Respond effectively to incidents, emergencies, and behavioural concerns.
- Ensure proper documentation of incidents, injuries, and program activities.
Administration & Reporting
- Maintain accurate attendance records, incident reports, and program documentation.
- Provide a comprehensive written evaluation/report at the conclusion of the program.
- Monitor program supplies and coordinate procurement needs.
- Utilize basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Word, email) for reporting and communication.
QUALIFICATIONS / EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
- Some post-secondary education in Recreation, Education, Child Care or related field.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification (required).
- Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License (required).
- Previous experience in day camps, recreation programming, or youth supervision is preferred.
- Prior supervisory or leadership experience is considered an asset and preferred.
- Water safety/ Lifeguarding or water safety certification is considered an asset.
SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Good written/verbal communication, interpersonal and public relations skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Sound understanding of provincial and municipal law.
- Conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.
- Sound understanding of Investigative techniques.
- Demonstrated skill in the writing of investigative reports.
- Demonstrated knowledge of computer and keyboarding skills, such as Microsoft Word/Excel

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT:
- Work indoors most of the time. They may occasionally work outdoors when leading activities.
- Occasional light lifting.
- Long periods of sitting.
- Extensive use of computers and telephones.
- Good lighting, temperature, and noise control.
- Normal working day consists of a maximum of 8 hours; however, occasional extended hours may be required.
