Position Summary

Reporting to the Regional Lead, Cultural Safety & Anti-Indigenous Racism Education, and in direct collaboration with the Northern Health teams in Indigenous Health, Organizational Education, Clinical Education and Organizational Development, the Education Coordinator, Indigenous Health (the Coordinator) works collaboratively with all Northern Health departments and Indigenous community partners and internal/external stakeholders, to identify, develop, coordinate, facilitate and inform educational opportunities in alignment with Northern Health’s commitment to addressing Anti-Indigenous racism and commitment to building trust and cultural safety in the delivery of all programs and services.

The coordinator will advise, inform, and support leaders across Northern Health, facilitating development that engages leaders to model and become champions of progressive leadership in pursuit of cultural safety, respect and equitable treatment for First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples. The coordinator will establish and maintain an active network of Indigenous subject matter experts, elders, and educators across the North and facilitate their invitation to contribute to and collaborate with Northern Health’s teams in the development and delivery of education opportunities for Northern Health.

Starting salary will be approximately from $76,111 to $95,138 and will be based on education, training, experience, and salaries of similar positions.

Qualfications
•Bachelor's degree in Adult Education, Communications, Organizational Development, or health related discipline supplemented with further certification in adult education, plus three (3) years recent, related experience in a complex health care setting, including progressive experience in preparing and delivering adult training and education curriculum, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Indigenous Health values lived experience equally with vocational and academic experience. We are committed to upskilling staff with local cultural knowledge, connection to community, and lived experience with and for the people we serve. Past knowledge and experience in Indigenous restorative practices-like healing circles is an asset. Experience in trauma informed training, traditional wellness practices is an asset.
• Pursuant to section 41 of the British Columbia Human Rights Code, preference will be given to applicants of Indigenous ancestry.

Skills and Abilities:
• Demonstrated communication (written and verbal) skills.
• Demonstrated coaching, consulting, and facilitation skills.
• Demonstrated expertise in instructional design and curriculum development. Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of training methods, course development, and training delivery.
• Demonstrates an applied understanding of Cultural Safety.
• Ability to assess learning needs and evaluate learning outcomes.
• Ability for critical thinking and problem solving.
• Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective working relationships and to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with First Nations, Inuit, Métis partners.
• Ability to clearly communicate detailed and complex information both orally and in writing to a variety of internal and external interested and affected parties, partners, and coworkers.
• Awareness of leading educational approaches for healthcare providers.
• Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development and lifelong learning
• Ability to assess, design, implement and evaluate curriculum, learning strategies, and methodologies based on adult learning principles and practices. Uses superior group facilitation, team building, negotiating, conflict resolution skills and an interactive teaching style to engage learners with a variety of different learning styles.
• Ability to be self-directed and work independently, as well as in partnership and collaboratively with others.
• Ability to operate related equipment, including computer hardware and software.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office required.
• Strong working knowledge of computer-based education platforms and ability to apply them effectively.
• Experience in or ability to quickly learn computer programs/interfaces is an asset.
• Willingness and ability to travel.
