Apply Now Posting Number: PC-26-16 Job Type: Permanent Full-time, Union Salary Range: $50,687.00 to $60,660.60 per year Posted: Wednesday, April 29, 2026 Application Deadline:Wednesday, May 13, 2026 at 11:59 pm The Opportunity The Water Operations Branch is a branch within the Infrastructure Department. The branch’s key responsibilities include the operation and maintenance of the City’s environmental infrastructure and systems including water supply, treatment, and distribution systems. This includes the repair and maintenance of drinking water treatment systems, water mains, valves, hydrants, residential main shut off valves, repair and replacement and water meters for service billing; the inspection of water mains and services; the installation of Industrial / Commercial / Institutional water services and meters, new home meters and hydrant metered gate valves; the Backflow Prevention Program; the resolution of water quality or water pressure issues/complaints; the maintenance of City standard drawing details for water specifications; and the prevention of infrastructure damage through the locating services for all of the City of Barrie's buried infrastructure in accordance with "One Call" legislation. The Operations Support Administrator (Water) position supports the delivery of departmental/branch services and programs through the scheduling and coordinating of technical and legislative compliance documentation; i.e. Drinking Water Quality Management System (QMS), Drinking Water Compliance Programs, work order management and other associated technical responsibilities. This position is also responsible for financial and records management duties. The Operations Support Administrator supports the delivery of departmental services and programs by being the frontline liaison to members of the general public, organizations, contractors, Councillors, other City of Barrie staff and Departments. This position promotes and maintains effective communications and teamwork practices with co-workers, other sectional union staff and exempt staff; prioritizes, collaborates on workload; facilitates and participates in meetings; and is committed to a work environment that is accountable, flexible and adaptable. *Please note: the job description for this position is currently under review and may be subject to change. Experience
  • One (1) year of experience performing duties related to the major responsibilities of the position
  • Demonstrated payroll and purchasing experience
Knowledge/Skill/Ability
  • Working knowledge of the following principles and standards: Drinking Water Quality Management Standard (DWQMS), water quality characteristics, and the Drinking Water System; Drinking Water Quality Management System (QMS)
  • Demonstrated ability to: work independently with minimal supervision use public relation skills to receive, manage, and resolve complaints, disputes, and conflicts use reason and judgement to develop conclusions or solutions to problems work in an environment that is accountable, flexible and adaptable maintain diversified workload with challenging deadlines be flexible, self-directed and able to work effectively with minimum supervision

  • Basic computer literacy using the following systems and software: Data Management Tool (data integration tool); Automated Financial systems; Automated Records Management systems
  • Intermediate computer literacy using the following systems and software: JD Edwards, Work Order management, web based programs including but not limited to CityWorks, Incident Reporting Tools, Customer Information Systems, and the internet
  • Advanced computer literacy using the following systems and software: Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, Powerpoint, Access, Visio)
