Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead design authority for specific products (optical amplifiers, optical channel monitors, OTDRs, and Linecards)and strategic customers, with responsibility for the full development cycle - alignment of specifications, customer technical communication, overall product design, integration, qualification, customer validation and approval, transfer to volume manufacturing, and oversight of sustaining engineering (cost reduction, component obsolescence, etc) activities.
- Define product architecture to align with customer requirements.
- Align with product management on key metrics – performance, cost, schedule - for product to achieve market success
- Define work packages and deliverables for optical, hardware, firmware, software designers and manufacturing test engineers to support product design and schedules.
- DFx (x=performance, cost, quality, manufacturability) ownership for the product - compliance to specification, part / supplier selection for cost & risk mitigation, manufacturing margins for high yields and high volume scalability
- Shephard the product through Coherent’s stage gate process, taking proactive actions as necessary to maintain committed development schedule. Collaborate closely with Program Manager to identify and mitigate technical risks early in the product design cycle.
- Engage closely with NPI team in Asia to ensure seamless transition of the product from alpha / beta phase to high volume manufacturing.
- Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and customer-centricity within the extended product development team.
