Job Description :
The Island Health Hospitalist group at Comox Valley Hospital (CVH) is looking for new team members to join us in our beautiful community on Vancouver Island. Come work in a place where you can ski, kayak, mountain bike, golf, climb, and hike on your time off.
We are a supportive group of approximately 10-15 members who strive to provide comprehensive care in our lovely 153 bed hospital. We work collaboratively with an excellent network of clinicians including specialists, rehabilitation staff, and nursing. Each physician provides care for approximately 15 patients, including being MRP for a diversity of medical patients, supervising care for our Low Intensity Rehab Unit patients, and consulting for specialists.
We are looking for full-time, part-time, and locum members. We currently staff 3 day lines (0800-1700) and 1 night line (1700-0800) but are looking to expand to 4-5 day lines. There is significant flexibility in our scheduling, and we support each other to ensure that all members get to work the days / hours they want. Our new contract with Island Health allows for expansion and includes patient workload maximums. Our rates are competitive with other hospitalist contracts on Vancouver Island and British Columbia.
If you have not visited the Comox Valley before, it is a must-see place with stunning surroundings, and the hospital is one of the best you will ever work at.

Community Information :
Scenic Comox Valley is one of Vancouver Island’s best-kept secrets! It is surrounded by majestic mountains, rushing rivers, lush rain forests, and shimmering seas. The winters are short and mild with warm, dry summers. The Valley includes several communities : Comox (a relaxed seaside town), Courtenay (a bustling urban city), Cumberland (a young and artistic village), and rural areas North and South including the islands of Hornby and Denman.
The Valley is an ideal place to raise a family with excellent schools, and a community college. There is a friendly and supportive physician community and an outstanding number of opportunities for recreational programs both indoors and out to support work / life balance. There are lots of annual festivals, a performing arts theatre, great boutique shopping, wonderful restaurants, farmers markets, and vineyards. Mount Washington Ski Resort, a 20-minute drive away, has 1700 acres of terrain and Cumberland has world-renowned mountain biking trails available year-round.
The city of Courtenay is located in the north central region of Vancouver Island amidst a beautiful agricultural landscape. Named after a local river, it is the urban centre of the Comox Valley and is home to one of the most charming downtown streetscapes on Vancouver Island. As one of Canada’s fastest growing communities, Courtenay offers a wide range of services and amenities. Its location in one of Canada’s finest four-season playgrounds creates opportunities for outdoor activities galore including swimming, boating, fishing, golfing, skiing, and sailing.
