PRINCIPAL – Secondment Opportunity
Position available for the 2026/2027 school year.

A dynamic career opportunity is available with Ministry of Education, Sagonaska Demonstration School in Belleville, Ontario. Sagonaska Demonstration School is a specialized school with a student lodging program for students with severe learning disabilities and provides highly individualized instruction, social skills and self-advocacy training as well as parent education to enable our students to function effectively upon their return to their home school boards. Additionally, consultative services and teacher training is provided to school boards to assist in the development of local programs for students with learning disabilities. Interested applicants who have the approval of their Director or Director designate are invited to apply.

You will:

  • Be a caring, innovative and experienced educator and leader with special education and learning disability expertise, who can effectively manage financial, human and material resources;
  • Support and lead change initiatives;
  • Develop, oversee, and deliver workshops and presentations;
  • Influence others to adopt a desired course of action;
  • Build relationships between various staff groups and lead data-driven decision making and progress monitoring;
  • Work co-operatively and collaboratively with stakeholders to meet mutual goals;
  • Demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning.

This secondment opportunity is available for a one year term from September 1, 2026 to August 31, 2027 with the possibility of renewal.

QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES:

  • Member in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers;
  • Principal Qualifications Part 1 & 2;
  • Experience as a Principal/Vice Principal;
  • Specialist in Special Education or ability to obtain;
  • Experience working with students with Learning Disabilities;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of language development and acquisition and an understanding of intervention programming;
  • Excellent knowledge of: Ontario’s education system; the Education Act/associated regulations; the curriculum review/implementation process; the education of students with learning disabilities;
  • Excellent knowledge of the Ontario elementary and secondary curriculum and ability to provide instructional leadership;
  • Well developed communication/interpersonal/supervisory/management skills;
  • Demonstrated analytical, problem solving and strategic thinking skills;
  • Flexibility in thinking.
