About this team
We are a -bed surgical oncology unit providing post-operative care to patients who have undergone GI, breast, or urology surgery. Admissions to our unit come via our Emergency Department, ICU, and PACU teams. Typical patient ratios for nurses on our team are 4 : 1 on days and 6 : 1 on nights. The patient population is predominantly surgical oncology (including retroperitoneal, pelvic, visceral, sarcomas, gastrointestinal stromal tumors, colorectal cancer, breast cancer, thyroid cancer), although we also see patients from general surgery, palliative care, and inflammatory bowel disease.
In this role you will :
- Conduct head-to-toe assessments and focused assessments according to patient needs
- Receive complex post-op patients
- Administer medications
- Maintain peripheral and central lines
- Monitor drains, stomas and Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN)
- Provide patient and family-centred education
- Perform other duties consistent with the job classification, as required
