Job Details Wage range : $39.49 to $51.99 Shift structure : Monday to Friday, 7.25 hours per day Primary l ocation : CASA Centre Secondary location(s) : Multi-site Union : In-scope Classification : Registered Nurse FTE : 1.00 Status : Permanent About the Role CASA’s Medical Clinics program provides intensive, medically-monitored, community-based psychiatric care for children and adolescents with chronic mental health disorders. The Mental Health Nurse will utilize their skills and expertise in child and adolescent mental health and psychiatry as part of an assessment and care team alongside the Psychiatrist. The Mental Health Nurse will : Demonstrate a strong understanding of psychosocial and neurobiological development in children, youth and young adults, along with knowledge of the DSM-5, psychotropic medications, cognitive behavioural therapy, motivational interviewing, crisis intervention, risk assessment and safety planning. Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills, including use of an electronic medical record system. Incorporate objective findings such as laboratory results, diagnostic findings, specialist reports and past history into assessments. Establish appropriate long- and short-term goals based on integrated assessment data and provide nursing interventions to promote, maintain and restore health. Facilitate individual or group therapy sessions and perform case management functions. Liaise with psychiatrists, community services and other professionals to promote continuity of care and assist families in connecting to appropriate resources. Provide relevant psychoeducation to children, youth and caregivers regarding medications, diagnoses, treatment plans and resources. Serve as a resource for team members, providing training to assist in their professional development. Participate in the development of children’s mental health teaching and resource materials. Identify service delivery improvements and suggest enhancements based on evidence-informed practice and CASA’s strategic and operational plans. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in nursing or psychiatric nursing is preferred. Minimum of three to five years of recent mental health and psychiatry experience, specifically in the care and management of children with mental health issues. Acute care experience in children’s mental health is an asset. Must be a member in good standing with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta or College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta. Valid Class 5 driver’s license and access to vehicle. Heart and Stroke CPR – Level C certification. Conditions of Employment A satisfactory Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Search and Child Intervention Check. Ability to pass and maintain Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) certification (training provided by CASA), as well as physical ability to perform all interventions.
