About Our Client : Our client is a regulatory authority in Ontario.
Position Scope : As the Director, Nuclear you are responsible for providing operational oversight of the Nuclear program, providing input to the strategic plan and providing management of the Nuclear inspection safety function.
Core Responsibilities and Duties :
- Manage the nuclear inspection teams and liaise with engineering, technical support and other groups as required to deliver on contractual commitments.
- Define, implement, and monitor oversight framework (in CRM where necessary) for the following in Nuclear Stations
- Operating Units
- Refurbishment activities
- New Nuclear Station Builds.
- Define and deliver workflow to track inspection work and findings in nuclear plants and for nuclear shop inspections. This includes delivery of SOPs and Work Instructions.
- Identify gaps in the development of operational policies, standards, and processes and leading, in collaboration with the other program directors, the review and harmonization of existing and new policies;
- Ensure that the nuclear team adheres to the Standard Operating Procedures and Work Instructions and update as required with an aim of harmonization;
- Liaise with Strategic Analytics and Policy team to build a risk and data framework for the nuclear sector. This includes overseeing the development of an action plan to influence, mitigate and address the public safety risks, for the development and implementation – in collaboration with the strategic analytics team – of a nuclear area risk management plan.
- Develop metrics to oversee the performance of the Nuclear team.
- Ensure the Nuclear supervisors manage the “Run the business” KPI’s in the annual Balanced Score Card by regularly monitoring and acting on the Operations Dashboard and all other available tools including Power BI reports and ensuring optimum utilization and efficiencies of operations resources. exercising of decisions and being the arbiter of actions taken by those staff exercising functions for the nuclear program area.
- With legal and finance teams, negotiate nuclear contracts;
- Develop, implement, and manage the delivery of new services for Nuclear in accordance with contractual parameters and without impacting mandated responsibilities. Forecast and manage nuclear capacity and contractual terms to ensure commitments are met;
- Proactively maintain effective relationships with CNSC, OPG and Bruce Power and engage the nuclear industry and other stakeholders to understand and resolve issues to maintain, represent the organization to various stakeholders, and promote its mission and mandate locally, and with respect to inter-provincial, national and international initiatives;
- Ensure early awareness of, and the ability of the organization to respond to, partner issues and concerns in a rapidly evolving environment;
- Promote customer relationship excellence, collaborating with the fellow program directors to deliver operational consistency and application of best practices in program outcomes;
- Have general administrative and supervisory authority in respect to any part of the CSA N285 standard and liaise with BPV conventional regulatory team to resolve any issues for clients providing services to the Nuclear Stations. E.g. N285
- Ensure the formulation and implementation of recruitment, development and succession plans to ensure the viability and continuity of the nuclear area leadership team.
- Create and sustain a highly engaged and performing work environment for our valued team members to achieve, develop & grow.
- Promote a healthy and safe workplace by ensuring program area compliance in the Occupational Health and Safety Act and overseeing the execution of the corporate health and safety policies and practices;
- Ensure that the operational and service delivery implications of technological, legislative or environmental change are recognized early, with the establishment of associated risk analyses and response plans; and
- Achieve financial objectives by forecasting functional requirements, support Finance in the preparation of an annual budget and three-year financial forecast, scheduling expenditures, analysing variances, initiating corrective actions, analysing and recommending information and trends for executive leadership decision making and ensuring financial performance in accordance with budget parameters; managing costs including improving efficiency to reduce costs.
