The Quality and Safety lead will play a key role in the delivery and embedding of a culture of continuous learning and quality improvement within the Directorate. They will ensure compliance with regulatory standards, external reviews, inspection response actions and meeting expected CQC care delivery outcomes by working collaboratively with leaders of teams and services.
Main duties of the job
Provide effective and visible leadershipInitiate strategies and actions to ensure that the directorate and divisions clinical governance agenda is implemented to deliver a high-quality service.Ensure that all clinical incidents are appropriately responded to and investigated within appropriate timeframes and that key learning is implemented within services to ensure safety.Demonstrate organisational values and behaviours through role modelling and being available to support staff and patients.To work flexibly across the directorate to lead on projects as appropriate.To oversee and manage the delivery of information and communication to services within the Directorate relating to quality improvement initiatives.Use the adopted QI methodology and coaching skills to engage teams.Coach, train and support clinical and non-clinical colleagues in using improvement principles and to ensure that they are embedded in practice.Support the implementation and embedding of the PSIRF framework.Work collaboratively with clinical, non-clinical, corporate, and managerial colleagues to identify quality improvement opportunities and provide support to enable services to take forward their ideas.To create and maintain standardised reports on Quality and Safety and to submit these reports into the Directorate governance structure, and externally to partner programme structures as may be appropriate.To ensure that risks to delivery are highlighted and deviation from specified and agreed trajectories are highlighted.To support with the development of key transformational programme.To develop new processes, protocols, and policies to support change management.To proactively monitor progress, issues, and risks in projects for which the post holder is lead, taking corrective and mitigating action where necessary.To provide regular feedback and update reports on progress, issues, and risks to senior management.Support operational departments in designing their plans and reporting benefits realisation.Design and agree evaluation and performance monitoring arrangements for project / programme areas. Ensure benefits realisation is developed, captured, and tracked.Lead Management of specific transformation projects and support system / joint projects.To ensure that project outputs are of high quality, produced on time and within budget in line with requirements agreed for projects the postholder is leading the project management for.To maintain the confidentiality in respect of patient and colleague information obtained at all times, and use such information only as authorised for specific purposes. Report any concerns about the use of such information to the senior manager.Person specification
QUALIFICATIONS / TRAINING
Master’s Level study or equivalent experienceRM / RGN or equivalent.Risk management / Quality and safety in healthcare qualification or equivalent experienceQuality Improvement qualification or equivalent experienceCoaching qualificationKNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE & EXPERTISE
Practical understanding of leadership styles / skillsThorough understanding of contemporary nursing / midwifery / healthcare issuesEvidence of experience / training in PSIRF delivery and governance in healthcareUnderstanding of national political and professional agenda and ability to apply this to portfolioEvidence of Continuing Professional Development in specialist field of practiceExperience of leading successful projects where QI supported this success.Competent in development and delivery of programmes of care.Understanding the principles and processes of Service Change.Ability to undertake audit and research relevant to own work area.COMMUNICATION AND RELATIONSHIPS (INCLUDING MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES)
