I am a single dad looking for a nanny for two amazing, energetic, strong-willed, and loving boys who are 7 and 11 years old. We live right on the coast of the Salish Sea, within a 5 min walk from Seal Bay Park, a 642 hectare forest nature reserve. Raiden (11) loves doing magic tricks, playing with Lego, reading and playing Minecraft, and is very creative and thoughtful. Raiden is high functioning on the Autism spectrum, and generally requires more attention and emotional support than typical for his age. Cedar (7) is a bundle of energy with a very playful imagination. He loves his mountain bike and anything outside. Cedar is very emotionally sensitive and does well with a bit of extra individual attention. Both boys attend a francophone school. We are a bilingual family and ideally our nanny would have basic knowledge of English or French. I am a Search and Rescue Technician in the Air Force and in my spare time I enjoy physical activity including running, cycling, swimming and all things outdoors – including rock climbing, canoeing and skiing. I would be happy to introduce you to some of the incredible places near our home if you are new to the area. This is truly a beautiful place to live and explore. Support Needs My job requires shift work, is not always predictable, and requires me to be on call. I am therefore looking for someone flexible in schedule that can work a combination of weekdays and weekends (including days and some nights), and that can be on call. Working with our family may be well suited to someone that enjoys having time off during the day (when the boys are in school or in summer camp). Ideally, I would like to find one person to work with, but I understand my schedule can be challenging and I am open to exploring sharing the responsibilities outlined below between two or more caregivers so please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you think our family may be a good fit for you. A little about my schedule : About half of my shifts are scheduled hours that I go into work, mostly during the day but also some evening / night shifts. During these shifts I am looking for someone that can look after the boys before and after school (e.g., 6am to 8am and 3pm to 6pm), before and after summer camp, on weekends and for some overnight shifts. There is also the possibility of work emergencies during these shifts, requiring me to stay later than expected, which is rare but can happen several times a year.The other half of my shifts I am on call at home. During these shifts I am looking for someone that could be at our house(or within a short drive) and on call to look after the boys if I get called into work (when they are not in school or at summer camp) and to stay with them till I get home. Some overnights will be needed. Our nanny will be compensated for on-call time and will have access to a private suite in our house with an ocean view, an attached private bathroom and wireless internet. It is rare that I get called into work during on call shifts (typically about 10% of the time). Our nanny will also have at least 8 scheduled days off per month (that will align with my days off).In addition to childcare, I am also looking for help with housekeeping : meals and clean up, kid’s bag lunch preparation, tidying, cleaning, etc. Our future nanny must have some previous childcare experience and a genuine love of children. You are independent, responsible, open minded and caring. Reliability during on-call hours is also critical. A driver’s license is required, and your own vehicle is preferred but not essential. Absolutely no smoking. References required. We will discuss your pay and holiday requirements when we meet. There is an option of living in our home in a private suite with an ocean view and attached private bathroom. As I mentioned above, I understand the flexibility required to accommodate my work schedule can be challenging and I’m open to exploring options for sharing responsibilities with another caregiver.
