SENIOR MECHANICAL ESTIMATOR The LAFRAMBOISE GROUP is seeking a Senior Mechanical estimator with Industrial project experience. This is a full-time position based out of Laframboise Group’s corporate office located in Long Sault (Cornwall) Ontario. Description of Position: Responsible for estimating the costs of a project or scope of Work that is associated with the Mechanical discipline including incorporating pricing from suppliers and subcontractors, and quantifying changes in scope.

  • Estimating costs associated with the assembly and construction of equipment and components by studying plans and specifications and doing accurate quantity take-offs.
  • Apply appropriate productivity rates and factors for the work and site conditions.
  • Prepare bid documents that meet the requirements of the Laframboise Group and the client’s RFP.
  • Ensure the bid is prepared according to the RFP requirements, and it is complete and accurate.
  • Develop and apply appropriate hourly rates for the schedule and work hours / shifts of the project.
  • Evaluate and compare supplier and subcontractor pricing to determine the best value proposal.
  • Review the project specific documents, site conditions to understand the Work.
  • Solicit input from the proposal team regarding the procurement and construction strategy with a focus on constructability, efficiency, and safety.
  • Perform bid to construct comparisons to quantify changes to the scope.
  • Experience with relevant standards, codes and industry practices.
  • Ensure Health & Safety Policies and provincial health and safety regulations are understood and followed.
  • Apply current estimating standards and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Travel to project sites as required.

Skills & Experience

  • 15+ years experience between working and estimating millwrighting type work for industrial projects $10MM+.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage concurrent proposals and projects.
  • Proficient at analyzing, managing, and administering contract documentation.
  • Excellent analytical skills and with attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Bi-Lingual in French or Spanish a plus.
  • Possess advanced proficiency in interpreting construction drawings and navigating the flow of Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs). Highly skilled in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and SharePoint, as well as in the use of estimating software.
  • Experience estimating other disciplines (ex. structural steel, sheet metal, vessels and tanks, piping, electrical) would be a plus
  • Experience with the selection and implementation of an estimating software would be a plus.

  • Competitive salary, commensurate with experience: (Range $50/hr. to $60/hr.)
