Position Summary : (DAY, EVENING & OVERNIGHT)-Part time & Fulltime shifts available The Youth Care Worker is a member of the interdisciplinary team w hich assesses, plans, implement s and evaluates treatment plans for a person served. Emp l oyees with this de signation perform front-line work in the program and carry the responsibility for the daily care, treatment, nurturance, supervisio n , health, and discipline of the persons served. The role is extensive and carries with it re sponsibilities in the counselling, teaching, and training areas, as well as recording and reporting. The Youth Care Worker must demonstrate high personal competence in the formation and maintenance of caring, trusting, and respectful relationships. The Youth Ca re Worker is accountable to the Progr am Ma na ger. Key Roles and Responsibilities : Development of a trusting, caring and r es p ectful relationship with the persons served. Teaching of life and social skills through role modeling of approp riat e behavior and b e able to assess needs an d stre n gths and use systematic plans of instruction, teaching methods and approaches to transfer information and s kill to persons served. Assist with the development and maintenance of problem-solving skills. Activity planning involves indi vidual / groups that meet recreational, e du cational and or t herap eutic needs. Counse lin g skills th at utiliz e problem-solving, de - esca l ation, goa l - setting, and preventative interventions with person served in a 1 : 1 or group scenario. To utilize techniques from different modalities und er superv i sion , such as, art therapy, evidence-based treatment, and trauma informed interventions. Recruit r esources for youth (i.e., guest speakers, career counseling, HRD, etc. .... in consultation with the Program manager. ) Documentation of daily activities, patterns and follow-through of the persons served. Daily, weekly, monthly documentation related to persons served including service planning and monthly resident calendar. Ensure that proper documentation is completed for a ll guests who are transferring or l eaving the program. Ensure that the discharge summary i s completed for each guest Remain within the "Scope of Practice" of Child and Youth Care Counselors. Providing all with a sense of safety, acceptance, and nurturance To parti cipate in all Staff and Clinical Meetings as scheduled . To attend all in-service training provided for all staff. Manage disclosures according to legal obligations. Assis t in maintaining records for providing information / stats required for Month l y, quart e rl y, and yearly reports and yearly prior to due date, availability co work shift work. Other duties as required Safety Management :                                                                                                       _ Ensure guests clean and tidy up their own rooms, that guests understand and comply with the laundry and chore schedules. Ensure that guests adhere to proper hygiene and hand washing. Ensure that an inventory is conducted for all guests' personal items upon admission and exit from the program, including updating as needed. Ensure that medical personnel are accessed for guests when required Ensures that guests understand and able to participate in emergency response procedures Must conduct searches of guests' personal items brought in upon admission. Must conduct random room searches to ensure guest a n d staff safety. Administer and document guest's medications as required. Ensure guests medications are double locked in a secure cabinet. Orientate the guests with the safety procedures for emergencies and emergency exits. Must participate in safety and emergency procedures (mock drills and tabletop exercises) Other duties as required Qualification Requirements and Certificates : Human services degree or diploma (and / or competency-based equivalencies). A Degree or diploma in social work would be an asset. Ability to acquire and / or maintain certification or registration with an accredited regulated body such Alberta College of Social Workers. Nechi Institute Indigenous Addictions Services Diploma and / o r (ACT / CAT / TOT training or equivalent would be an asset) Strong interpersonal skills that bridge the distance with individuals that may have a resistance to relationships, different morals / values, and alternative lifestyle choices, strong personal boundaries. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Willingness and ability to work long and irregular hours under stressful conditions. Experience in working with diverse cultural and religious communities. Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture, beliefs, and traditions. Be of the Metis or Aboriginal heritage and / or knowledgeable regarding specific issues, customs, and traditions specific to the heritage. Mental Health First Aid, Trauma Informed Care, First Aid, Medication Administration, Suicide Intervention Skills Training & Nonviolent crisis intervention Clear Criminal Record check and CYIM checks Valid C l ass 5 driver's license Conduct - Relation and Other Requirements Willingness to abstain completely from alcohol and psychoactive drugs. F l uency in the Cree language is a strong asset. Willingness to apply the organization values of Seven Sacred teachings : Humility, Honesty, Respect, Courage, Wisdom, Truth, and Love.
