SUMMARY :
Merit Services is seeking a skilled Marine Geologist to join our client’s dynamic team in Saskatchewan. As a Marine Geologist, you will utilize your knowledge in geology, analytical abilities, and fieldwork background to examine the ocean floor, sedimentary layers, and geological structures. This presents an exhilarating chance to enhance our understanding of oceanic geology and actively participate in the responsible preservation of our marine assets.
RESPONSIBILITIES :
Perform geophysical and geological examinations of the ocean floor by employing sonar systems, seismic profiling, and coring tools.
Examine various geological samples such as sediment cores, rock samples, and marine fossils to gain insights into historical environmental conditions and geological activities.
Examine and interpret characteristics of the Earth’s seafloor, including its shape, types of sediment, and geological formations.
Work alongside diverse teams of scientists such as oceanographers, geophysicists, and marine biologists to incorporate geological information into wider scopes of scientific studies.
Create and apply research methods and protocols for examining distinct geological inquiries or investigating unexplored fields of study.
Use GIS and remote sensing technologies to create maps and analyze geological information.
Perform evaluations of geological hazards and participate in the process of identifying and reducing potential dangers.
Help to share research findings with both scientific and non-scientific audiences by contributing to scientific reports, research papers, and presentations.
Keep yourself informed about the most recent progress in marine geology, geophysics, and techniques for mapping geological features.
Adhere to safety protocols and ethical guidelines while conducting fieldwork and laboratory work.
QUALIFICATIONS :
Advanced degrees such as a Master’s or Ph. D A degree in Geology, Marine Geology, or a closely related discipline is required.
Demonstrated expertise in carrying out marine geology investigations, ideally within a professional or academic environment.
A deep understanding of geological processes, sedimentology, and techniques used in mapping marine geology.
Skill in operating geophysical and geological survey apparatus and software.
Possess expertise in analyzing sediment cores, studying stratigraphy, and processing geological samples.
Outstanding abilities in analysis and problem-solving, characterized by a meticulous focus on detail.
The candidate possesses excellent written and verbal communication abilities and can effectively convey scientific ideas.
The capacity to function autonomously and cooperatively within a research group.
Excellent abilities in organizing and managing time effectively to successfully complete project tasks within specified timeframes.
Having previous practical experience in fieldwork and being skilled in using GIS software is
desirable qualities
